About the Role
Are you an experienced electrical leader looking to make an impact in a complex industrial environment? We have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Superintendent to join Portland Aluminium.
Reporting to the Maintenance & Reliability Manager, you will lead electrical and instrumentation maintenance across the site, providing governance of HV and LV systems while acting as the site's Electrical Safety Authority. You will champion electrical safety, compliance, reliability and continuous improvement through effective maintenance strategies, regulatory oversight, incident investigations and team development.
This is a key leadership role focused on ensuring the safe, reliable and compliant operation of critical electrical assets while building capability across electrical teams and contractors. The position forms part of an on-call roster.

What you can bring to the role
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- A relevant electrical qualification supported by extensive experience in electrical and instrumentation maintenance within a complex industrial environment
- Strong knowledge of electrical safety, high voltage and low voltage systems, switching activities and statutory compliance requirements
- Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to develop technical capability, set clear expectations and support high performing teams
- Experience managing electrical safety systems, regulatory audits,
incident investigations and corrective actions
- A strong understanding of preventative maintenance, equipment
reliability and root cause analysis
- The ability to provide practical and timely solutions to complex
maintenance, reliability and operational challenges
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including experience working with operational teams, technical specialists, contractors and regulatory bodies
- A proactive commitment to workplace health and safety, hazard
identification, risk assessment and continuous improvement
Key responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Provide site-wide leadership and governance for electrical and instrumentation maintenance and electrical safety
- Act as the site Electrical Safety authority and maintain the Electrical Safety Management System
- Oversee the safe and compliant operation of high voltage and low voltage systems, switching activities and system upgrades
- Lead electrical audits, regulatory engagement, incident investigations and the closure of corrective actions
- Improve electrical asset availability and reliability through effective preventative maintenance and root cause analysis
- Develop the capability of electrical and instrumentation employees through coaching, training and technical guidance
- Support electrical infrastructure upgrades and provide recommendation on the suitability and serviceability of equipment
- Drive continuous improvement in maintenance effectiveness, safety performance and cost efficiency

Our Portland Smelter is a joint venture between Alcoa of Australia (55%), CITIC (22.5%) and Marubeni Aluminium Australia (22.5%). Alcoa manages the day-to-day operations at the smelter and we produce approximately 19 per cent of Australia’s total aluminium production in Portland.
