Mechanical Product Design Engineer II - Cab Mounting (L6)

Inside the Role

As a Product Engineer II within the Vehicle Dynamics organization at DTNA, you will be part of a collaborative engineering team responsible for developing critical isolation systems & components that play a key role in overall vehicle performance. This role is ideal for engineers who are eager to continue developing strong technical fundamentals while gaining exposure to isolation solutions used in heavy-duty vehicles.

In this role, you will work alongside experienced engineers and cross-functional partners in product validation, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and with suppliers. You will develop innovative solutions for cab mounting systems through hands-on involvement in projects, testing activities, and problem-solving efforts. You will develop a working understanding of how complex vehicle systems come together, while building a strong foundation for long-term growth within DTNA’s engineering organization.

Position offers a salary range of $86,000 to $110,000 USD

Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience.

What You Drive at DTNA

• Design and develop cab mount systems and components to achieve targeted ride & handling, vehicle NVH, and durability. Components include rubber isolator assemblies, shocks, air springs, lateral control rods, and structural components such as castings and sheet metal parts.
• Develop system-level requirements, component specifications, and vehicle validation plans for cab mounting. 
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product validation, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and supplier partners to investigate and resolve technical issues.
• Review and analyze technical data, drawings, and specifications to ensure compliance with internal standards and external requirements.
• Apply sound engineering judgment to perform engineering work and support manufacturing plants, quality assurance, and service departments.
• Use CAD and other design tools to create and maintain 3D part designs, detailed 2D part and assembly drawings, GD&T, packaging studies, and installation diagrams.
• Create and maintain engineering documentation throughout the product life cycle.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and complexity optimization initiatives focused on product quality, cost, and system robustness.
• Successfully complete assignments on time and within budget.
• Proactively inform stakeholders of project issues, delays, and risks.
• Manage multiple assignments concurrently and prioritize them in alignment with business goals.

 

Knowledge You Should Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field or 6 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree required.
• Fundamental understanding of mechanical systems.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving skills (root cause analysis/8D), and organizational skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
• Demonstrated CAD expertise (e.g. NX, or similar).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).

 

Exceptional Candidates Might Have

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Hands-on project experience related to automotive, heavy-duty vehicles, or industrial equipment.
• Exposure to product development, testing, or manufacturing environments.
• Leading implementation of product improvement initiatives.
• Experience working with suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams.
• Demonstrated curiosity, ownership mindset, and desire to grow within a structured engineering organization.
• Culturally positive and influential within the team and across the organization.
