Brewing Production Assistant

Ever wondered how people get their start in the brewing industry? This is it. Mare Island Brewing Co. in Vallejo, CA is looking for a Production Assistant to join our production team. No professional brewing experience needed. We will train you.

Our Coal Shed Brewery sits on the waterfront of the former Mare Island Naval Shipyard. In 2017 we turned this historic Navy coal shed into an 8,000 sq. ft. brewery, taproom, and event space. We also run the Vallejo Ferry Terminal Taproom and the First Street Taphouse in Benicia, and we self-distribute across the Bay to over 350 active accounts. SF Gate readers voted us "Best Brewery of the Bay Area" in 2026.

We brew on a 15 bbl Prospero brewhouse and a 1 bbl Blichmann pilot system, and we can on a CODI 6-head counter-pressure line with a depalletizer and in-line labeler. At a brewery our size, you will learn every step: brewhouse, cellar, and packaging. There is real room to grow into a Brewer role.

What you'll do

• Cellar work: tank cleaning, fermentation checks, dry hopping tanks up to 30 bbl, yeast harvesting
• Run and support the canning line and keg filling
• Clean and sanitize tanks, kegs, and the brewhouse (CIP)
• Mill in grain for brew days
• Keep the brewery clean and organized, and follow our standard procedures
• Pitch in where needed: beer festivals, beer club parties, event setup. We all do it all.

What we're looking for

• 21 or older
• A strong work ethic and a real desire to learn the craft
• Mechanically inclined and process-minded (a plus, not a must)
• A passion for cleanliness and safety, including safe chemical handling
• Team player who communicates well. Sorry, no lone wolves.
• Can lift a full half-barrel keg (165 lbs) with help and repeatedly lift 55 lbs
• Comfortable on your feet all day, on ladders, and in temperatures from 40°F to 110°F
• Forklift and pallet jack experience a plus. We will train and certify you.

Pay and benefits

• Full-time, 40 hours/week, hourly with overtime
• $19–$21/hr, depending on experience
