As a Development Manager, you will play a leadership role in a team by contributing to the design, development, maintenance and support of ICE Trading Applications. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced technology leader to impact a critical and highly visible platform for ICE. The ideal candidate must be very hands on, have a proven track record of building and leading teams, be results-oriented, self-motivated and can thrive in a fast-pace environment.  This role requires frequent interactions with project and product managers, developers, quality assurance and other stakeholders, in order to ensure delivery of a world class application to our users.

 

This role requires close interaction and coordination with the team(s) based in ICE’s US offices. As such, there is an expectation that the qualified candidates will be able to overlap part of their working hours with US Eastern time zone.

 

 

Responsibilities

• Actively engage and lead in the design and development of a high-volume enterprise messaging application.
• Follow and ensure guidelines for quality and consistency within the design and development phases of the application.
• Oversee multiple streams of work across multiple components.
• Identify opportunities to improve and optimize the application.
• Support the design, architecture and planning of technology solutions to meet the business need. Apply comprehensive business processes, application design and functional knowledge in problem resolution.  
• Propose and define solutions and standards which may impact a team or the organization.
• Provide leadership and expertise in the investigation and resolution of performance related issues.
• Assist in planning, organizing and controlling activities and in the development of the overall project plans and timetables. 
• Lead and contribute to the development of new methods, procedures, processes, or systems and understand the impact of these changes.
• Provide guidance, support, train, develop and hire technology staff.  Provide evaluation on their technical proficiency to management as needed.
• Hire and build a team of qualified developers to help support multiple projects on the Derivatives Trading platform.

 

Knowledge and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information technology
• 12+ years of experience with core Java and Java EE
• Strong knowledge of multi-threaded and concurrent Java development
• Good understanding of JVM internals, particularly Java garbage collection
• Knowledge developing, testing, and scaling distributed systems
• Experience in concurrent and distributed programming
• First-hand experience with enterprise messaging (Kafka or equivalent)
• Track record of delivering projects on time with a high degree of quality
• Experience and/or knowledge of all aspects of the SDLC methodology and related concepts and practices
• Comprehension of Spring Framework preferred
• Practical knowledge of Java application servers (Tomcat) preferred
• Experience with Agile development methodologies preferred
• Knowledge of Maven/Gradle preferred
• A hands-on leader with the ability to manage and develop a team.
• Effective communication skills with ability to interact effectively with multiple stakeholders
• Experience working with commodity markets or financial trading environments is a plus
• Deploying and running applications on cloud (AWS or equivalent) preferred
