Team Summary

Reporting to the Regional Risk Officer, the Payment Ecosystem Risk team is responsible for:

  • Driving a holistic Asia Pacific strategy to identify, assess and mitigate fraud, scam and cyber threats across the payments ecosystem
  • Providing proactive and reactive risk engagement to protect clients, consumers and Visa while enabling secure business growth
  • Leading regional ecosystem risk and threat intelligence, industry engagement and thought leadership to strengthen ecosystem resilience in close collaboration with in-market risk managers to ensure threat intelligence and mitigation translate into coordinated action on the ground

What an AP Fraud & Cyber Threats Director does at Visa

Reporting to the VP, Payment Ecosystem Risk, the Director will lead Visa’s Asia Pacific approach to identifying, assessing and responding to significant and emerging fraud, scam and cyber threats affecting the payments ecosystem.

This high-impact individual contributor role has broad reach across Visa, driving outcomes through close partnership and influence across regional and global teams. The role combines incident response, proactive threat mitigation, payment-focused cyber-threat intelligence, technical product risk advice and external engagement.

The role requires close partnership across Risk, Product, Cybersecurity, and Technology in market, AP and Global teams to assess emerging threats, develop risk positions, influence control improvements, and coordinate regional response activities.

Key objectives are:

  • Lead the regional client response to fraud and cyber-enabled payment incidents: build on initial global threat analysis to assess AP impact, develop further intelligence, engage affected clients and markets in close partnership with Risk Managers, and drive resolution with minimal client friction and ecosystem impact.
  • Translate threat intelligence into preventive action: identify emerging fraud, scam and cyber-enabled vulnerabilities across the payments ecosystem and drive stronger controls, product enhancements, solutions and client guidance.
  • Embed fraud and cyber-threat controls into products from launch: influence Product teams during product design, Product Risk Reviews, launch readiness and remediation activities by translating fraud, scam, and cyber-threat intelligence into abuse scenarios, control recommendations and client guidance, enabling products to scale securely and with confidence.
  • Establish Visa’s AP payment-risk approach to cyber threats: build the intelligence-sharing cadence and operating model with Cybersecurity, Technology and Market Risk, ensuring cyber-threat intelligence is consistently translated into payment-ecosystem action.
  • Strengthen Visa’s external leadership on fraud and cyber threats: represent Visa with clients, regulators and industry stakeholders, providing credible risk expertise and thought leadership that reinforces Visa’s position as a recognized and trusted authority.

Why this is important to Visa

Fraud, scams and cyber-enabled attacks are becoming faster, more sophisticated and increasingly interconnected, with AI enabling threat actors to scale deception and exploit new vulnerabilities across the payment ecosystem.

This role is critical to helping Visa anticipate emerging threats, translate intelligence into proactive action, and strengthen ecosystem defenses while enabling secure innovation and growth.

Visa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Qualifications

What you will need:

You can turn threat intelligence into practical action, lead through complex incidents and influence senior internal and external stakeholders.

Relevant Industry Exposure

  • Deep understanding of payment flows and how fraud, scams and cyber threats exploit vulnerabilities across the ecosystem backed by relevant industry experience in technology, payments, or cybersecurity
  • Proven ability to translate fraud and cyber intelligence into business risks, controls and response actions
  • Practical experience with payment authentication, EMV chip and contactless transactions, tokenization, digital-payment ecosystems, fraud controls, payment processing and cyber-enabled payment abuse.

Exceptional Collaboration and Communication Skills

  • Proven ability in leading complex, cross-functional initiatives through influence, navigating diverse priorities across Product, Risk, Cybersecurity, and Technology to drive aligned outcomes
  • Strong communicator who can make complex risks clear and actionable for senior leaders, clients and external stakeholders

Results-Driven Execution

  • Strong problem solver with the ability to identify root causes, make sound judgements and develop practical solutions
  • Hands-on and accountable, with a strong bias for action and ownership through to delivery

  • Demonstrated leadership and hands-on experience working across markets and cultures in a complex multinational environment
  • Ability to adapt solutions to regional market realities while aligning with global strategies and standards
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent relevant professional experience
  • Professional certifications such as CAMS, CISSP, CISM, GIAC or equivalent payment-security qualifications are valuable but not required
