The Business Line Leader is responsible for the overall strategic direction, operational performance, financial results, and growth of the assigned Electronics Business Line. This role provides day-to-day leadership while developing and executing business strategies that drive revenue growth, profitability, market expansion, and customer satisfaction.
Reporting to the President of Fire and Safety, the Business Line Leader translates organizational objectives into actionable business plans and ensures successful execution across commercial, technical, and operational functions. The position owns the business line's commercial and technical resources and carries full profit and loss (P&L) responsibility for a business portfolio exceeding $50M annual revenue.
The Business Line Leader will champion growth in electronics market segments, lead innovation initiatives, and foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and customer-focused performance.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
Develop and execute business line strategies aligned with company objectives and long-term growth plans.
Identify market trends, customer needs, competitive threats, and emerging opportunities within electronics and related markets.
Establish short-term and long-term objectives, performance targets, and business priorities.
Lead annual strategic planning, forecasting, and resource allocation activities.
Formulate, execute, and maintain business line strategies, product plans, and technology roadmaps based on market insights and customer requirements.
Serve as a key member of the Fire & Safety North America leadership team, providing strategic guidance and business line direction.
Financial Management
Maintain full profit and loss (P&L) accountability for the assigned business line.
Develop and manage annual operating plans and budgets.
Monitor financial performance and implement corrective actions to achieve revenue, margin, and profitability targets.
Drive revenue growth through effective commercial strategies and market expansion initiatives.
Identify opportunities for cost optimization and operational efficiency.
Manage business line revenue, gross margin, and overall financial performance.
Business Growth & Commercial Leadership
Develop commercial strategies and tactical plans to drive growth of Fire & Safety North America electronics products.
Identify and evaluate new business opportunities, markets, technologies, and strategic partnerships.
Lead business development efforts to expand market share and customer penetration.
Oversee sales forecasting and execution of tactical plans required to achieve or exceed business objectives.
Drive sustainable growth through innovation, investment, and market-focused initiatives.
Product & Portfolio Management
Provide leadership for product line definition, positioning, and lifecycle management.
Guide to New Product Development (NPD) prioritization and investment decisions in alignment with strategic objectives and market conditions.
Ensure timely delivery and successful commercialization of strategic and customer-driven NPD projects.
Partner with engineering, operations, marketing, and sales teams to develop innovative solutions that meet market needs.
Manage product portfolio performance and identify opportunities for product enhancement, rationalization, or expansion.
Operational Excellence
Ensure efficient execution of business operations and successful delivery of products and services.
Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, quality, and operational effectiveness.
Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and business outcomes to ensure achievement of goals.
Drive cross-functional alignment and accountability across commercial, technical, and operational teams.
Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
Full utilization of the IDEX Operating Model
Leadership & Talent Development
Lead, coach, mentor, and develop managers and team members within the business line.
Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
Support succession planning and talent development initiatives.
Manage team priorities, resource allocation, and department budgets.
Drive employee engagement and organizational effectiveness while building high-performing teams.
Act as a change agent by leading transformation initiatives and promoting Lean and continuous improvement principles.
Customer & Stakeholder Management
Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, distributors, partners, and key stakeholders.
Ensure customer expectations are understood and met through proactive engagement and responsive support.
Drive a high level of customer satisfaction through superior product and service performance.
Collaborate closely with Sales, Marketing, Engineering, Operations, Finance, and Human Resources to achieve business objectives.
Represent the business line in executive leadership meetings, customer engagements, and strategic planning discussions.
Qualifications
Required Education
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Management, Finance, Engineering, Marketing, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
Required Experience
Minimum of 15 years of experience in Sales, Marketing, Product Management, Product Development, or related commercial leadership roles.
Experience in OEM, industrial, electronics, manufacturing, or technology-driven business environments preferred.
8-12+ years of progressive leadership experience with increasing responsibility.
Demonstrated success managing business operations and financial performance, including P&L ownership.
Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams and driving business growth.
Experience developing and executing strategic business plans and product roadmaps.
Operational Leadership including Vendor and 3PL management is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong business acumen and commercial leadership capabilities.
Demonstrated expertise in P&L management, financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
Strong understanding of product lifecycle management and New Product Development processes.
Ability to evaluate market opportunities and translate customer insights into growth strategies.
Exceptional strategic planning, analytical, and decision-making skills.
Excellent leadership, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Up to 50% travel.
Perform general office and administrative functions.
Visual acuity required for computer work, data analysis, and detailed review of information.
Frequent interaction in office, manufacturing, laboratory, warehouse, and customer environments.
Ability to participate in plant tours, customer visits, and trade events as required.

Total Rewards
The compensation range for this position is $141,800.00 - $212,800.00, depending on experience. This position may be eligible for performance based bonus plan.Benefits Package
