Role Overview

Supervise the preparation, review, and maintenance of all Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles for all of Tokio Marine HCC and subsidiary company investments, including but not limited to bonds, stocks, and derivatives.


Key Responsibilities

Relying on broad experience and judgment, this role is accountable for accomplishing the following responsibilities and has substantial latitude for actions or decisions made with minimal review.

·       Supervise the daily functions of the applicable accounting department, including, but not limited to, planning, prioritizing and directing work flow, acting as a resource for questions, and interfacing with senior management.

·       Design, review, and recommend financial and accounting policies, processes, procedures, and technology to meet internal and external reporting requirements, improve operational efficiency, and safeguard corporate assets. Plan and execute implementation.

·       Supervise complex, standard, and ad hoc reports (monthly, quarterly, and annually), which includes analysis, account reconciliations, control checks, manual journal entries, statutory filings, and preparation of financial statements utilizing a broad knowledge of accounting principles.

·       Assist in preparing financial information and analyses to both internal and external audiences.

·       Assist in preparing the investment disclosures in financial statements on a quarterly basis ensuring reporting consistency in financial statements, board reports, and information provided to analysts.

·       Prepare time-sensitive monthly investment reporting for distribution to management.

·       Create, update, and enhance current management and investor reporting for investments.

·       Coordinate reviews of financial statements and processes with internal and external auditors.

·       Assist in researching and interpreting accounting issues under USGAAP and Insurance Statutory Accounting.

·       Manage communication with internal and external customers regarding departmental work and facilitate the resolution of customer issues.


What You Bring


Education

·       Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field or the equivalent education and/or experience.

·       Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred.


Experience

·       6 years of relevant and progressive experience in accounting and/or finance.

·       2 years of insurance-related experience.

·       Up to two years of team supervisory experience.

·       Public accounting experience is preferred.

·       Knowledgeable of industry changes, legal updates, and technical developments related to applicable area of the Company’s business to proactively respond to changing business environment.

·       Advanced proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office package (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).

·       Develop work plans, establish timelines, and set goals for assigned work unit; assign resources as needed; and meet commitments on deadlines.

·       Communicate team or group results to management and make appropriate recommendations; prepare written and verbal presentations to convey information.

·       Drive improvement in existing business processes and assist in the identification and implementation of new processes; assist in development and be accountable for budget for work unit; work within financial objectives set by management.

·       Comply with all corporate policies and procedures; identify control objectives for designated function and implement cost-effective controls designed to meet those objectives; test controls to determine if they are performing as intended.

·       Has full HR responsibility for direct reports including making hiring decisions, training, coordinating work, establishing standards, reviewing work, conducting performance appraisals, and providing coaching or counseling.


Travel

·       Occasional travel (up to 10% of time).
