Description
The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Traffic Signs Technician in the Transportation Department. The Transportation Department is dedicated to providing safe and efficient transportation systems for all residents and visitors. This position involves designing, fabricating, installing, repairing, and maintaining traffic signage and road markings on City streets.
- Design traffic signs using digital design software and create patterns for traffic signs.
- Fabricate traffic control signs, operate production machinery, and maintain equipment.
- Install and maintain traffic signs, inspect for compliance, and perform necessary repairs.
- Install road markings using paint sprayers and other equipment.
- Review closure plans for special events and provide needed signage, barricades, and cones.
- Adhere to established safety procedures, monitor work environment, and use safety equipment.
- Maintain equipment and supplies, ensure adequate stock, and initiate repair requests.
- Communicate with supervisors, other City employees, contractors, and the public to coordinate work activities.
- Process documentation associated with department operations, including work orders and inventory records.
- Operate a variety of equipment and tools used in department projects and activities.
- Perform other similar duties as required.
- High school diploma or GED required
- Vocational or technical training in graphic design or a related field.
- One year of experience in sign design, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Valid Driver's License
- Must have the ability to obtain the IMSA Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Certification and the Level I Signs and Pavement Markings Certification within a reasonable time frame as determined by the Department Director or City Traffic Engineer.
