Description of Work

The Grounds Worker I position requires skill in planting, cultivation, and care of shrubs, trees, plants, and grass in the yards and surrounding areas of the campus grounds. Work is performed in accordance with instructions from a supervisor; however, this employee must determine the necessary care and treatment to maintain the grounds and shrubs in good condition. Work is inspected and evaluated on the basis of the visual appearance of the grounds.

Responsibilities Include:
• Planting and Cultivation: Selecting and planting seasonal flowers, trees, and
shrubs while maintaining their health.
• Turf and Bed Maintenance: Mowing, edging, and fertilizing lawns, as well as
weeding and mulching landscape beds.
• Pruning and Trimming: Shaping hedges, shrubs, and small trees to ensure
attractive, orderly, and safe conditions.
• Operating Machinery: tractors, zero-turn mowers, trimmers, blowers and other
ground maintenance vehicles as needed.
• Preventive Maintenance: Make minor repairs and perform preventive
maintenance on mowers and lawn equipment.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade Range: $31,200 - $48,810

Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Basic knowledge of ground keeping and horticultural practices.

  • Basic knowledge of cultivation, pruning, spraying, and trimming requirements of shrubs and trees.

  • Ability to supervise the work of other employees.

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

This Position Is Designated As Mandatory And Must Report Or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.

Workday Schedule: Monday - Friday / 7:00am-3:30pm

Veteran’s and National Guard Preference
