Position Summary

The Associate Dean of Culture is an entry-level, school-based role that reports directly to the Dean of Culture, creating a safe, structured, and values-driven school environment where students can thrive. As the first point of contact for student behavior, this role is deeply embedded in the school's daily life, responding to behavior concerns in real time, guiding students toward accountability, and building strong, trusting relationships.

While supporting the SLT team, the Associate Dean of Culture plays an essential hands-on role in bringing the school’s culture systems to life, ensuring expectations are clear, consistent, and lived out across the building.

Essential Responsibilities

 

Student Behavior and Daily Interventions

  • Supervises Lunch and Recess periods.
  • Serves as the first stop for student behavior incidents, classroom removals, and referrals.
  • Responds promptly to behavior concerns and provides immediate intervention and de-escalation.
  • Facilitates student reflection conversations and restorative responses.
  • Supports student accountability through classroom push-in or class removal (as needed) and morning check-in processes. 
  • Determines appropriate next steps within established behavior protocols and escalates to the Dean of Culture when necessary.
  • Supports student re-entry to class following behavior incidents.
  • Supports the coordination and facilitation of meetings with families, students, and staff that support and address all concerns that impact the daily success of students. 
  • Responds to violations of all school policies (i.e. attendance/lateness policy, uniform guidelines, and personal electronics rules) consistently and fairly.
  • Supports the school community to discuss behavior, discipline, culture temperature topics, peer mediation, social emotional learning.

Culture Implementation and Presence

  • Maintains a visible and active presence in hallways, common areas, arrival, transitions, lunch, recess, and dismissal.
  • Reinforces school norms, routines, and expectations consistently across the building.
  • Supports the implementation of school-wide culture systems as designed by the Dean of Culture.

Family Communication

  • Communicates with families regarding routine behavior incidents and interventions.
  • Partners with caregivers to support student accountability and growth.
  • Refers complex or sensitive family situations to the Dean of Culture.

Staff Support

  • Supports teachers with behavior response, classroom removals, and re-entry planning,
  • Helps staff understand and follow behavior referral processes.
  • Collaborates with counselors, social workers, and support staff as needed.

Documentation and Follow-Up

  • Documents behavior incidents accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Tracks follow-up actions and ensures completion of assigned interventions.
  • Supports data collection related to student behavior and culture trends.

Minimum Experience and Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 6 months of experience working with students in a school, summer camp, after-school, or youth-serving environment.
  • Strong command of all Google Suite programs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with students, staff, families, and school leadership
  • Ability to remain calm, firm, and empathetic in challenging situations.
  • Willingness to learn and implement school culture systems.
  • Completion and clearance of pre-employment Fingerprinting and Reference check process.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting student behavior or discipline.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in Spanish.

 Equipment

  • Laptop, Promethean board, and office equipment. 

Work Schedule

  • 12-month work schedule
  • Monday - Friday
    • 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (during school year)
    • 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM (during summer months:  July and August. Summer hours change in accordance for needs during summer school)

Hours are subject to change based on the needs of our children. Therefore, the ideal candidate should have flexibility within the hours of 7:30 am- 5:00 pm. Your supervisor would discuss any change in schedule with you ahead of time. 

Work Environment/Physical Effort:  

  • Regularly required to sit, stand for long periods of time, walk, climb stairs, speak loudly and clearly, visually observe, hear, operate a computer, and other classroom, school, and office equipment, reach with hands and arms, bend down, and must occasionally lift, move, and/or support up to 20 pounds. Work is being performed in a traditional multi-floor school environment with limited to no elevator access.

Compensation: 

Amber Charter Schools strictly follow a salary schedule for each role to ensure our continued commitment to pay equity. The expected salary range for this role is $58,500 -$62,063, depending on verified relevant work experience, highest level of completed education, and required certifications and/or licenses for the role. This is an non-exempt position.
