Description
AVEVA is creating software trusted by over 90% of leading industrial companies.
Job Title: R&D Principal Technologist, Product Development
Location: Bangalore
Employment Type: Regular, full-time, hybrid work arrangement
The job
At AVEVA, we’re seeking an experienced Development Lead for the PI Visualization team—curious, collaborative, and eager to grow. You’ll provide technical direction and deep domain expertise, solving complex problems with creative approaches. You’ll design and develop sophisticated software systems across the full lifecycle, from concept and detailed design to implementation and reliable release, within a large interdependent .NET and JavaScript platform. You’ll drive architecture decisions, enable cross-team integration, and ensure engineering alignment. You’ll coach developers and enforce strong practices in testing, security, code quality, and operational readiness to deliver robust solutions.
Key responsibilities
- Architect & design scalable, maintainable solutions with backward compatibility in mind.
- Lead delivery of complex/high-risk features, including hands-on coding when required.
- Ensure engineering quality via code reviews, test strategy, definition of done, and regression control.
- Drive secure engineering practices, including auth flows, dependency risk, and vulnerability remediation.
- Coordinate cross-team dependencies and integrations across platform, data, setup/release, and key integration points.
- Own production readiness and reliability, including observability, performance, release risk assessment, and rollback planning.
- Shape backlog and delivery plans: provide technical input to Product Owners/R&D, translate themes into executable plans, and set realistic scope and timelines.
Essential requirements
- Education/experience: Bachelor’s/Master’s in CS/Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
- Seniority & leadership: 12+ years full-stack development, including 3+ years as technical lead owning delivery, mentoring, requirement shaping, and planning/estimation.
- Core tech stack: Strong enterprise web app experience with C#/.NET plus modern JavaScript/UI engineering (including Angular, and familiarity with jQuery).
- Software design excellence: Strong OOP, design patterns, and clean, maintainable coding practices.
- Security-by-design: Proven ability to design/build solutions and frameworks with secure engineering principles.
- Delivery & collaboration: Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration, plus strong CI/CD & release engineering (quality gates, deployment governance, rollback planning) with hands-on Azure DevOps Boards/Pipelines.
Desired skills and competencies
- Experience building high-performance enterprise visualization/UX (large datasets, real-time updates, rendering/performance tuning, responsive interaction).
- Experience designing distributed/connected systems spanning on-prem components and cloud (edge/device → server → cloud), including integration constraints (latency, reliability, versioning).
- Strong operational excellence / production-first mindset: observability (logs/metrics/tracing), incident triage, performance diagnostics, and release health monitoring in live environments .
- Proven ability to lead platform/framework evolution across multiple interdependent teams (standardization, reusability, reducing duplication, long-term maintainability).
- Habit of technical discovery and de-risking—spikes/prototypes, evaluating trade-offs, and sharing learnings via design docs/tech talks to build alignment.
Preferred experience
- Experience developing industrial/process data visualization products (e.g., PI System/PI Vision or similar historian/SCADA-style platforms).
- Proven performance tuning for data-heavy UI and API workflows (rendering, paging, caching, query optimization).
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) and responsible usage in engineering workflows.
- Experience or familiarity with modern authentication/authorization patterns (OIDC, JWT, MSAL) and auth modernization.
- Knowledge of the PI System domain: PI Vision, PI AF, PI Data Archive (data modeling, time-series concepts, typical user workflows).
