The Role Design & Technology Teacher
The Design & Technology Teacher will inspire students through hands-on, creative, and project-based learning. The role involves teaching upper primary and lower secondary students and helping to shape a dynamic and forward-thinking D&T programme.
Key Responsibilities
Planning and delivering engaging D&T lessons that develop creativity, technical knowledge, and practical skills across areas such as materials, structures, mechanisms, simple electronics, and design thinking.
Guiding students through the complete design cycle, including research, planning, prototyping, testing, refinement, and evaluation.
Ensuring safe and effective use of all tools, equipment, and materials, and maintaining high standards of health and safety in the workshop and classroom.
Designing age-appropriate and inspiring projects that build confidence in making, building, and problem solving.
Differentiating instruction to support a wide range of abilities and ensuring that every student is appropriately challenged.
Working collaboratively with colleagues to strengthen and integrate the schools STEAM programme.
Keeping accurate assessment records and reporting progress clearly to students and parents.
Contributing to wider school life by supporting clubs, competitions, exhibitions, or practical learning events.
Participating fully in school events, professional development opportunities, and curriculum development discussions.
Requirements
- Recognised teaching qualification such as PGCE, B.Ed, QTS, or equivalent
- Specialism or strong experience in Design & Technology or a related practical discipline such as STEAM, Product Design, or Engineering.
- Minimum of three years relevant teaching experience.
- Strong practical and workshop-based skills with confidence using a range of tools and materials.
- Excellent understanding of health and safety requirements in practical learning environments.
- Experience with IPC/IMYC or the British curriculum is an advantage.
- Native or fluent English speaker.
- Creative, organised, and enthusiastic about inquiry-based and hands-on learning.
