Job Summary:

The Seasonal Painter is responsible for performing skilled painting, staining, finishing, and surface‑preparation work to maintain and enhance Xanterra’s facilities, structures, and assets throughout the park. This role supports ongoing preventive and corrective maintenance efforts while ensuring all work meets safety, quality, and sustainability standards. 

 

The Parkwide Paint Crew Painter plays a key role in maintaining and preserving facilities and historic structures throughout the park. This position is responsible for preparing surfaces, performing painting and staining tasks, and making minor repairs with attention to historic materials and preservation standards. 

The Parkwide Paint Crew Lead supports the Parkwide Paint Crew Supervisor in supervising seasonal painting operations across park facilities. This role helps implement scheduled interior and exterior painting projects, coordinates materials and equipment, and ensures that all work meets professional quality standards. The Lead performs minor historically accurate carpentry repairs, assists with performance evaluations, and collaborates closely with Engineering, trade personnel, location and campground management, maintenance teams, and the National Park Service.

Responsibilities

Painters: (Wage $19.50 - $21.25/hour)

  • Perform skilled work in surface preparation, painting, staining, and finishing on Xanterra facilities, structures, and related assets.
  • Complete, track, and document preventive and corrective maintenance activities using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and associated work order logs.
  • Select and properly use tools, equipment, and materials required to complete work safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, respectful, and cooperative work environment.
  • Communicate effectively—verbally and in writing—while demonstrating professionalism and a courteous demeanor.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision; occasionally work overtime or night shifts as required.
  • Follow and enforce surface-preparation safety procedures related to Asbestos-Containing Material (ACM) and Lead-Based Paint (LBP).

Park-Wide Painters: (Wage $19.50 - $21.25/hour)

 

  • Prepares surfaces for coatings, as required, for all assigned interior or exterior tasks.
  • Make minor repairs as required, evaluating historic fabric for in-kind replacement of materials.
  • Performs painting/staining tasks, as assigned, ensuring quality and professional work is always completed and the proper coating color, sheen, etc. is applied.
  • Accountable for the care, maintenance and security of all assigned materials, equipment and tools.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment and complying with all current related codes and regulations.

 

Park-Wide Paint Crew Lead (Wage: $25.75/hour)

 

  • Assists with supervising the Parkwide Paint Crew personnel.
  • Implements the planned and scheduled workload, material procurement and equipment for interior and exterior painting tasks as assigned.
  • Assists with the care, maintenance and security of all assigned equipment and tools.
  • Responsible for making minor historically accurate carpentry repairs prior to painting.
  • Ensure quality and professional work is completed.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and make sure the Crew is complying with all current related codes and regulations.
  • Assists with conducting required performance evaluations.
  • Assists with coordinating tasks with Engineering, parkwide trade personnel, location & campground management, maintenance managers, and the National Park Service.

Qualifications

Painter II

  • Proficient painting skills demonstrated through prior work experience, education, or relevant hands‑on practice.
  • Working knowledge of painting techniques, tools, and products and their appropriate use across various applications.
  • Willingness to participate in training and ability to learn new skills quickly.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, assignments, and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of applicable OSHA and NFPA safety regulations, with the ability to identify and correct unsafe conditions or code‑noncompliant work.

Painter I

Must meet all Painter II qualifications and:

  • Possess advanced painting skills.
  • Ability to mentor, support, and train less experienced maintenance staff.
  • Demonstrate innovation, problem‑solving skills, patience, and persistence when addressing challenging maintenance issues.

Park-Wide Painter:

 

  • Must be proficient in the operations and use of all painting products, equipment and tools common to trade.
  • Knowledgeable about historic structures and the various coatings and historic fabric repairs.
  • Must participate in 4 hours of annual Historic Preservation Awareness Training.
  • Must have general knowledge of OSHA requirements, including fall protection, scaffolding, lead and asbestos awareness.
  • Must be at least 21 years old and possess a current, valid, driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Must be able to read, understand, interpret and comply with all Xanterra’s company policies and procedures.

 

Park-Wide Painter Lead:

  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of professional painter experience or equivalent.
  • Must be proficient in supervising personnel in accordance with all Xanterra policies and procedures.
  • Must be proficient in the operations and use of all painting equipment common to the trade.
  • Must be able to efficiently schedule tasks to ensure timely arrival of materials and equipment and effective use of personnel.
  • Must participate in 4 hours of annual Historic Preservation Awareness Training
  • Must have general knowledge of OSHA requirements, including fall protection, scaffolding, and the lead and asbestos programs.
  • Must be at least 21 years old and possess a current, valid, driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • You must be able to read, understand, interpret and comply with all Xanterra’s company policies and procedures.
  • Within 90 days you must attend and complete the Class III Asbestos abatement and removal training and certification program.

 

Physical Requirements include:

  • Ability to use respiratory protection when required and comply with company respiratory protection policies, including restrictions regarding facial hair. Park-wide staff requires the use of respiratory protection.
  • Ability to work in confined and permit‑required confined spaces.
  • Ability to walk up to a half mile over uneven terrain; climb ladders and stairs; stand, bend, kneel, and crawl in various weather conditions and at elevations above 6,000 ft.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Park-wide staff members ability to lit and carry up to 70 pounds.
  • Physical stamina to perform strenuous outdoor labor.
  • Must be at least 19 (park-wide staff must be minimum age of 21) years old and possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for the past three years.
