Description

Join Sourcebooks, the fastest growing publisher in the U.S., where creativity, innovation, and storytelling collide. This isn't a coffee-run internship — you'll contribute to real projects, collaborate with publishing professionals, and see how your work impacts readers everywhere. What you study doesn't matter: we're looking for your curiosity, your drive to learn, and your interest in books.

The Adult Managing Editorial team is looking for an organized, detail-oriented, and curious intern eager to learn how books move from manuscript to finished product. Throughout the internship, you’ll work across multiple Sourcebooks imprints while gaining exposure to every stage of the publishing process. You’ll learn how schedules are developed, how departments collaborate, and how Managing Editorial keeps complex publishing programs on track.

Program Details
  • Program Dates: September 14 – November 21, 2026
  • Schedule: 21 hours/week throughout the program
  • Compensation: Paid, $17/hour ($20/hour for interns based in CT, MA, MD, NJ, NY, PA, VA, or Washington D.C.)
  • Application Deadline: August 1, 2026 — apply soon!

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with generating publication schedules and tracking project milestones
  • Monitor production timelines and identify upcoming deadlines across editorial, design, production, and marketing
  • Support cross-functional communication by coordinating needs across departments and following up on outstanding action items
  • Participate in department meetings and gain exposure to publishing strategy, scheduling discussions, and production planning
  • Help prepare and update project trackers, reports, and workflow documentation
  • Assist with special projects that support the Managing Editorial department and Adult publishing program

What We’re Looking For
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Comfortable learning new technology and project management systems
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills
  • Positive, proactive, and collaborative attitude
  • Interest in book publishing, project management, or operations
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet software preferred; experience with project management platforms such as Smartsheet is a plus, but not required

Eligibility & Requirements
  • Must be a current college student (sophomore, junior, senior) or recent graduate
  • Able to commit to 21 hours/week for the full program duration (9/14 – 11/21/26)
  • Must reside in one of the following states for the duration of the internship:  Arizona, Connecticut, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin.

Your Cover Letter Matters — A Lot!
We want to know why you want to intern at Sourcebooks. Your cover letter is your chance to tell us:
  • Why publishing — and why Sourcebooks — what excites you
  • What you hope to learn and contribute
  • How your creativity, curiosity, or love of books shines through

Applications without a cover letter won't be considered, so take the time to tell your story!

Why Intern With Sourcebooks: Hands-on experience on real projects, exposure to the full publishing process, panels and networking events, and a mentorship program — all at one of the fastest-growing publishers in the country.
