The Behavioral Health Therapist provides behavioral health services, consultation, prevention programming, and outreach that promote student well-being, academic success, retention, and personal development. This position reports to the Director of Behavioral Health. The position is a 10-month, full-time position requiring approximately 40 hours per week. Nine weeks off will be arranged with the Director of Behavioral Health in alignment with the university schedule to meet overall student service and staffing needs, typically during June and July.

The Behavioral Health Therapist must demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, professionalism, and sound clinical judgment while responding to the evolving needs of students and the university community.

Essential Job Functions

Clinical Services

• Provides clinical assessments, individual counseling, group counseling, crisis intervention, and linkage to resources/case management as needed for currently enrolled students using evidence-based, ethical, and culturally responsive practices.
• Develops safety plans and coordinates referrals as clinically appropriate.
• Completes accurate and timely clinical documentation within 72 hours of the date of service.
• Provides services that are responsive to the developmental needs and scheduling demands of college students through in-person and other approved methods of service delivery.

Consultation, Collaboration, and Campus Partnerships

• Consults with university faculty, and staff regarding student behavioral health concerns in accordance with professional ethics and applicable privacy laws as needed.
• Provides consultation and refers faculty and staff seeking behavioral health services to appropriate community resources.
• Collaborates with campus and community partners—including Student Affairs, Residence Life, Student Success, Academic Accommodations, Financial Aid, and other university offices—to facilitate student success when appropriate and with required student authorization.
• Participates in CARE Team meetings on behalf of the Director of Behavioral Health as assigned and other multidisciplinary student support efforts as assigned in support of student well-being and campus response efforts.

Outreach and Prevention

• Develops, implements, and delivers psychoeducational programming, outreach initiatives, and behavioral health trainings for students, faculty, and staff.
• Completes required train-the-trainer programs and serves as a trainer for assigned educational and prevention initiatives.
• Engages in assigned outreach opportunities to classes, athletic teams, and other campus groups and students as assigned.  
• Participates in Weeks of Welcome activities and graduation activities as members of the Student Affairs Staff
• Works occasional evening or weekend hours to support campus outreach programs, trainings, university events, counseling groups, or other behavioral health initiatives.

Professional Responsibilities

• Participates in departmental and university meetings, trainings, committees, and other activities as assigned.
• Utilizes available breaks in the clinical schedule to complete assigned professional development through the university's designated learning platform and other approved continuing education opportunities.
• Provides education and shadowing opportunities as well as clinical oversight and support to practicum and internship students, consistent with licensure requirements.
• Assists with the university's response to significant campus emergencies or critical incidents as requested.
• Performs duties in accordance with university policies, applicable professional ethical standards, licensing requirements, privacy regulations, and applicable state and federal laws.
• Performs other related clinical, outreach, consultation, and administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Behavioral Health.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Master's degree in Counseling or Social Work.
• Licensed or license-eligible to provide behavioral health services in Kentucky (e.g., LPCC, LPCA, LCSW, or CSW).
• Experience working in a college or university counseling setting preferred.
