Molecular and Cell Biology Research Scientist, 6-month contract

We are seeking a motivated and experienced biologist to join our Exploratory Research team as a Research Scientist at our Boston site. This lab-based role involves designing and executing assays for validating target engagement as well as completing work in a resourceful, timely and self-sufficient manner. You will be working as part of an inclusive drug discovery team focused on innovative approaches to develop transformative medicines for patients.  The ideal candidate will have a strong background in molecular and cell biology, with a demonstrated track record of collaboration and effective stakeholder communication.

Key duties and responsibilities:• Utilize modern molecular and cell biology techniques to validate target engagement and interrogate functional outcomes of novel chemical biology approaches for severe genetic diseases with a high unmet medical need• Develop in vitro biochemical and cell-based assays aimed at elucidating target functions and biology• Independently design and perform key studies to understand compound mechanism of action at the molecular and cellular level in support of drug discovery projects• Critically analyze and interpret complex data, and effectively document and communicate results to scientific working groups and project teams• Work effectively with colleagues from cross-functional disciplines • Collaborate and deliver on objectives successfully in a fast-paced work environment

Education, skills and experience:

• Ph.D. or (equivalent degree) and 0-5 years’ post-doctoral experience in Molecular and Cell Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or related field; or equivalent industrial experience• Skilled in molecular and cell biology techniques including Western blotting, co-immunoprecipitation, quantitative real-time PCR, fluorescent/bioluminescent resonance energy transfer assays, gel shift/spectral shift assays, and other techniques• Strong communication and problem-solving skills, along with strong collaboration skills and effectiveness in a team environment focused on drug discovery

Flex Designation:On-Site Designated

Flex Eligibility Status:In this On-Site designated role, you will work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.

Note: The Flex status for this position is subject to Vertex’s Policy on Flex @ Vertex Program and may be changed at any time.

Pay Range

$48-55/HR
