Description

Who You Are:

You are a detail-oriented and analytical professional with deep knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance, internal controls, and business process design. You thrive at evaluating risk, documenting processes, and identifying gaps that could impact financial reporting. You are just as comfortable digging into process details as you are partnering with cross-functional teams to drive control improvements. You balance independence and collaboration, bringing strong project management and communication skills to keep stakeholders aligned and compliant.

The Task At Hand:

Once Upon a Farm is seeking an Internal Controls Manager to support the company’s SOX compliance program and ensure robust internal controls over financial reporting. This role will focus on business process controls (e.g., procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, inventory, payroll, financial close) while collaborating with IT and operational teams to ensure end-to-end compliance. You will take ownership of walkthroughs, risk assessments, control documentation, testing, and remediation tracking. By ensuring controls are designed and operating effectively, you’ll play a critical role in maintaining trust, compliance, and strong governance across the organization.

In This Role, You Will:

  • SOX Compliance & Internal Control Management
    • Support the execution of the company’s SOX program, focusing on IT and Business Process controls across finance and operations.
    • Perform process walkthroughs with business owners, identify key controls, and document them in risk-control matrices.
    • Design and update process narratives, flowcharts, and test plans to reflect current practices.
    • Execute control testing and document results in accordance with PCAOB and external auditor standards.
    • Track and validate remediation efforts for control deficiencies, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Process & Risk Assessment
    • Assist in annual SOX scoping and risk assessment activities.
    • Evaluate changes in business processes, acquisitions, or system implementations for impact on SOX controls.
    • Provide recommendations for strengthening processes, mitigating risks, and improving operational efficiency.
  • Collaboration & Business Partnership
    • Partner with Finance, Accounting, HR, Operations, and IT to ensure consistent control execution and awareness.
    • Support internal and external audit requests, providing clear and accurate documentation.
    • Act as a trusted advisor, simplifying compliance requirements and guiding best practices for control design and operation.
    • Use AuditBoard GRC tool to document and retain SOX workpapers.

In This Role, You’ll Bring With You:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field (CPA, CIA, or CISA certification preferred).
  • 4–6 years of experience in SOX compliance, internal audit, or external audit at a public company or Big 4/large firm.
  • Strong knowledge of SOX 404 requirements and internal control frameworks (COSO).
  • Hands-on experience with business process controls (procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, payroll, inventory, financial close).
  • Excellent documentation, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally, influence stakeholders, and communicate effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in ambiguity, deeply understand business needs, develop a cohesive strategy, and make decisions requiring a high level of judgment.
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Suite, Outlook, Slack, and other professional platforms.
  • Although this role is a remote work-from-home position, we “Farmers” do meet as a company and/or as a department a few times a year. Anticipate possible travel up to a few times each quarter.

  • Please note that visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Compensation:

  • Salaried, Exempt, Full-Time
  • The anticipated salary range for this position is $130,000.00 - $150,000.00.
