Description
Overview
Join Susquehanna’s trading technology team to support, deploy and automate the highly distributed, on-premises Service Fabric/Kubernetes microservices platform powering our trading systems across Asia Pacific. Working within the trading systems development team, you’ll collaborate daily with developers and traders, improving application deployment, monitoring and operational reliability through Octopus Deploy, GitLab pipelines, Ansible, Python and PowerShell.
What you’ll do
- Become a subject matter expert in our in-house trading systems and the highly distributed microservices platform and architecture they run on
- Collaborate closely with trading system developers on design, releases, and operational readiness, so new features run reliably in production
- Scope and build out new sites end-to-end, covering hardware, network, cluster deployment, and monitoring
- Support, deploy, and troubleshoot microservices across our on-premises Service Fabric/Kubernetes environment
- Troubleshoot service-to-service communication (gRPC) and multicast data feeds across the platform
- Automate deployments using Octopus Deploy, GitLab pipelines, and Ansible
- Automate configuration and routine operational tasks using Python and PowerShell scripting
- Support, build, and improve our monitoring and observability (metrics, logs, dashboards, and alerting) using tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, and ELK, so we get early warning of issues in our trading environment
- Act as the link between traders, in-house technology teams, and external parties (exchanges, vendors), keeping information on system issues and changes flowing
- Find ways to improve the stability, resilience, and reliability of our platform and trading environment through better use of technology
- Develop automated system tests to validate releases before they go live
- Keep technical and user documentation up to date for the systems you support
What we’re looking for
- A degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
- At least 3 years of commercial experience in financial services or a similarly demanding production environment, ideally in trading or trading technology
- Experience supporting highly distributed, microservices-based systems in production
- Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical colleagues and external parties
- The ability to handle tight deadlines and shifting priorities in a trading-room environment
Technical skills
- Strong Windows administration skills, including supporting and deploying applications on Windows servers
- Hands-on experience with Service Fabric and/or Kubernetes, running microservices platforms in on-premises or hybrid environments
- Experience automating deployments with Octopus Deploy, GitLab pipelines, and Ansible (CI/CD)
- Solid understanding of highly distributed and microservices architectures, ideally including Microsoft Orleans, enough to trace and troubleshoot issues across services
- Working knowledge of gRPC and Protobuf for service-to-service communication
- Understanding of multicast data feeds, and the ability to debug them and related protocols such as TCP/UDP
- Scripting and automation experience in Python and PowerShell. You don't need to be an expert in both, but you do need prior scripting or programming experience and the ability to learn
- Experience supporting monitoring and observability tooling, including Prometheus, the ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana), and building and using dashboards in Grafana
- Experience with InfluxDB for storing and querying time-series monitoring data
- Experience with Azure Service Fabric for hosting and managing microservices
- Experience with Kafka for streaming and messaging
- Familiarity with MongoDB, enough to investigate system issues (advanced knowledge isn't required).
Nice to have
- An understanding of financial markets and instruments, across equities and derivatives (not essential)
- C# development skills (not essential, but highly regarded)
- Experience with containerisation using Docker
- Experience with analytical data stores such as ClickHouse
- Experience supporting a trading environment and working directly with developers and end-users.
What’s in it for you
- Our flat hierarchy enables you to drive meaningful impact, by leveraging your expertise and taking ownership
- Private healthcare and gym allowances, plus wellness initiatives
- Additional leave entitlements including marriage leave
- Fully stocked kitchen, with daily breakfast and lunch
- Regular social, sporting and community events including annual poker tournament
- Matched donations and corporate discounts.
