Description

Private Equity Vice President - Generalist | Full time | Stamford, CT
About the Company
A growing middle market private equity firm managing more than $1 billion in long-duration capital from institutional investors. The firm can structure investments as a majority owner, minority partner, or provider of structured capital, and has backed businesses across North America and Europe with equity checks generally in the $50 million to $400 million range, in companies generating $50 million to $100 million of EBITDA. The team targets cash-generative businesses with a defensible market position and works closely with management to solve operational and strategic challenges, drawing on decades of combined experience across many industries. The firm has grown quickly since its founding several years ago and is preparing to raise its next fund.
About the Role
The Vice President will be a key member of the firm's investment team, responsible for leading deal execution, working closely with portfolio companies post-investment, and sourcing new opportunities. This is a generalist mandate that moves across sectors rather than specializing in one, and calls for strategic thinking, financial expertise, and strong leadership skills. The VP will also mentor junior team members and collaborate with external advisors to support the firm's investment strategy.
The ideal candidate has meaningful private equity deal experience at the VP level, or is ready to step into one, is a hungry, low-ego generalist, and wants to build a long-term career rather than move up on title alone. This search is open to a range of VP seniority for the right fit — it is not a Principal-level mandate.
What Makes This Opportunity Compelling
- Join a fast-scaling platform with real ownership of deals from diligence through close, working directly alongside the firm's Managing Directors and founder-level leadership.
- Carry begins at the VP level, and the current fund is already in the money.
- A collaborative, low-hierarchy culture where team members present directly to management teams rather than staying behind the scenes.
- A generalist mandate spanning multiple sectors rather than a narrow vertical focus.
- A newly built office with an easy commute from New York City.
Key Responsibilities
Transaction Execution & Diligence
- Lead and coordinate the deal process from diligence to closing, including financial modeling, valuation, and negotiation.
- Perform in-depth analysis of financial statements, industry trends, and market dynamics.
- Manage relationships with legal, tax, and financial advisors during the execution process.
- Oversee the preparation of investment committee materials and present findings to senior leadership.
Portfolio Company Partnership & Value Creation
- Work closely with portfolio companies to drive growth, operational improvement, and strategic value-creation initiatives.
- Monitor key performance indicators and financial performance across portfolio companies.
- Support exit preparation, including sale processes, IPO readiness, or strategic partnerships.
Deal Sourcing
- Identify and develop new investment opportunities through networking, conferences, and intermediary relationships, in partnership with the firm's Head of Business Development.
- Collaborate with industry experts to develop sector-specific investment theses.
- Maintain and leverage a network of investment bankers, advisors, and other intermediaries.
Team Leadership & Pipeline Management
- Mentor and develop Associates and Senior Associates on the deal team.
- Maintain a pipeline of potential investment opportunities and prioritize resources accordingly.
- Build and expand industry knowledge and relationships with management teams to aid deal flow.
Professional Experience & Qualifications
- Meaningful lower middle market or middle market private equity deal experience, typically preceded by 2-3 years in investment banking or a related field.
- Comfort with an open-ended, generalist case format — the ability to reason through ambiguous problems on the spot, not just execute a known process.
- Strong financial modeling, valuation, and analytical skills.
- Track record of playing a leading role in transactions from diligence through closing.
- Genuine interest in building a long-term career at one firm rather than moving up on title alone.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field.
Compensation:
$550-650k total compensation (base + bonus)
