Job Summary

Summary:

Responsible for the coordination and planning of Infection Control activities. Provides guidance and consultation in the development, planning, and coordination of infection control. Conducts relevant investigations and develops reports pertinent to clinical risk management issues.



Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred upon hire; if not CIC at hire, must be prepared to sit for CIC within 2 years of hire.

Essential Functions
-Report communicable diseases to local and state health departments and complete public health department forms as needed.

-Utilize performance improvement methodology as a means of enacting change.

-Develops an annual surveillance plan based on the population(s) served, services provided, and analysis of surveillance data.

-Implement site NHSN and non-NHSN surveillance, remediation, and reporting of infections, including outbreak detection and response.

-Provides formal and informal education programs to hospital personnel as necessary or when directed.

-Implement at the site level system infection prevention and control goals, plans, policies, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, regulatory/legal requirements, and objectives of the organization.

-Conduct regular Environment of Care rounds and report findings to appropriate local and system leadership.

-Implement, in collaboration with MGB Occupational Health Services, policies and procedures to assess, mitigate, and respond to occupational infection risk.

 

Education Bachelor's Degree Health Sciences required or Master's Degree Related Field of Study preferred Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No Licenses and Credentials Registered Nurse [RN - State License] - Generic - HR Only preferred Certified in Infection Control [CIC] - Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. (CBIC) preferred Experience Clinical healthcare experience 3-5 years required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Clearly demonstrable expert-level knowledge in infection control and prevention. - Strong attention to detail. - Excellent communication skills. - Statistical methods and data analysis and report writing skills. - Knowledge and experience in a.regulatory and other requirements related to Infection Prevention and Control b.implementation of CDC National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) surveillance and other surveillance for healthcare-associated infections c.application of commonly used performance metrics, including Vizient, Leapfrog, CMS, others
