Company Description

We’re representing an early-stage fintech company building a global consumer neobank that combines international banking and payments into a single product. The company’s mission is to enable customers around the world to spend, save, and earn in U.S. dollars.

The company is being built by a small, senior team of engineers and operators who have previously founded, built, and owned products used by hundreds of millions of people and generating billions of dollars in revenue. With major distribution opportunities available through launch partners, the team is initially focused on the U.S. and select international markets with ambitions to expand globally.

This is a highly technical, high-ownership environment with minimal organizational layers. Every engineer ships product, influences architecture, and helps shape the direction of the company.

What You Will Do

• Lead development of the company's native Android application from the ground up.
• Architect the Android technology stack and establish engineering standards for the platform.
• Build a highly performant, reliable, and secure consumer mobile application.
• Develop primarily in Kotlin and Java.
• Own major areas of the Android product from architecture and implementation through production.
• Establish patterns and best practices that allow the mobile platform to scale as the company grows.
• Partner closely with a small team of senior engineers and the company's technical leadership.
• Help shape the overall technical vision and architecture of the consumer product.
• Collaborate with teams building the company's iOS and mobile-friendly web experiences.
• Potentially contribute across platforms or other areas of the stack depending on your interests and technical breadth.
• Build consumer financial experiences where performance, reliability, security, and product quality are critical.
• Potentially grow into a broader mobile engineering leadership role as the organization expands.

Ideal Background

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Significant experience building and shipping native, consumer-facing Android applications.
• Strong production experience with Kotlin and/or Java.
• Experience building Android products that have operated at meaningful consumer scale.
• Strong understanding of native Android architecture and development practices.
• Able to independently architect major parts of a mobile application rather than only implementing predefined features.
• Strong fundamentals around mobile performance, reliability, security, and maintainability.
• Track record of owning significant product areas from initial design through production.
• Comfortable establishing technical standards and making architectural decisions.
• Strong product instincts and attention to the quality of the end-user experience.
• Comfortable working within a small, senior engineering team with significant autonomy.
• Interested in remaining deeply hands-on while taking meaningful technical leadership.
• Comfortable working onsite in San Francisco.

Preferred

• Experience building consumer products for the Latin American market.
• Background in fintech, banking, payments, mobile payments, or consumer financial services.
• Experience building mobile applications involving sensitive financial or transactional data.
• Strong design sense and appreciation for polished consumer experiences.
• Full-stack engineering capabilities and willingness to contribute outside of Android when useful.
• Experience collaborating across Android, iOS, web, and backend engineering.
• Previous experience helping establish a mobile architecture or engineering function from an early stage.
• Startup experience or another environment requiring significant individual ownership.
• Interest in eventually taking broader ownership across the company's mobile platforms.
