The District is a special district located in Woodland, California, whose primary mission is to provide surface water for agricultural purposes in western Yolo County, and it serves approximately 225,000 acres of agricultural land. The District is instrumental to maintaining the economy and agricultural heritage of Yolo County.
Under general supervision, persons in the Irrigation Operations Worker position are responsible for delivering water to District customers, taking water orders, performing maintenance on the canal system, and performing associated construction-type activities such as operating heavy equipment, building concrete forms, and pipe installation. Persons in this position must be able to accurately enter information on a computer or tablet.
The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience in agriculture, construction, irrigation, or a related field. A valid California drivers license is required, and possession of a Class A license is a plus. Additional desirable skills include welding and metal fabrication, knowledge of pump maintenance and repair, and basic carpentry skills.
Starting pay for this position is $26.16 to $32.12 depending on experience, skills and abilities. The District also offers a comprehensive benefit package including medical, vision, and life insurance, a dental reimbursement program, paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays, a defined contribution retirement plan, and a 457(b) deferred compensation plan with matching funds. The District’s benefit package is valued at approximately 35% in addition to the hourly rate of pay.
Weekend work is required during the irrigation season (typically late March through mid-October) when persons in this position work 10 days on, four days off. Work schedule is Monday through Friday during the maintenance season. Due to the ability to respond in a timely manner to emergency situations in the District’s canal system, applicants who live within a 15-mile radius from the District office are given priority.
Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply by submitting a cover letter and resume via email to Jennifer Reed at [email protected]. The deadline to apply is September 11, 2026 at 5 p.m.
