The Gathering & Processing (G&P) Material Management Lead will be responsible for providing guidance, direction, organization, and development for the SCM Material Management team across the Gathering & Processing business unit.
In collaboration with the Manager, SCM Operations, this role will provide leadership and support to the operations supply chain management team to drive excellence in material management processes, inventory optimization, warehouse operations, logistics coordination, team development, and cross-functional collaboration. The role will play a key part in advancing the department's journey toward supply chain excellence by ensuring materials are effectively planned, managed, stored, and available to support safe and reliable operations.
The Material Management Lead will be responsible for establishing and promoting best practices in warehouse management, inventory control, critical spare parts management, logistics strategy, material planning, and work management integration. The successful candidate will help drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational efficiency, inventory accuracy, cost optimization, governance, and service delivery while ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures. This position is based out of Edmonton/Sherwood Park with regular travel required to G&P facilities and warehouse locations.
ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Team Management
- Provide leadership, coaching, mentorship, and performance management for a team of Warehouse Technicians supporting Gathering & Processing assets.
- Establish clear expectations and promote a culture of safety, accountability, continuous improvement, and customer service.
- Support workforce planning, resource allocation, succession planning, and employee development initiatives.
- Foster collaboration across the broader SCM organization, including Contracts & Procurement, Capital Projects, and Operations.
Warehouse & Inventory Management
- Lead warehouse operations across assigned facilities, ensuring adherence to material management standards and procedures.
- Ensure inventory accuracy through effective cycle counting, auditing, reconciliation, and inventory governance practices.
- Oversee management of critical spares, repairable spares, consumables, direct issue materials, and surplus inventory.
- Drive improvements in warehouse organization, material storage, preservation, receiving, issuance, and disposal processes.
- Ensure operational readiness through effective material planning and inventory optimization strategies.
Systems & Process Excellence
- Serve as a subject matter expert for Material Management processes and the Maximo ERP system.
- Support system enhancements, process improvements, master data governance, and reporting initiatives.
- Drive adoption and compliance with Material Management standards, procedures, and best practices.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives to improve material availability, inventory accuracy, and operational efficiency.
Standardization & Continuous Improvement
- Partner with the Liquids Infrastructure Material Management Lead to standardize processes, procedures, KPIs, reporting, and governance across all business units.
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, reduce inventory costs, and improve service levels.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing and best practice implementation across warehouse teams.
- Support organizational maturity initiatives and integration activities involving newly acquired assets.
Operational Support
- Support maintenance, turnaround, outage, project, and operational activities through effective material planning and execution.
- Ensure materials are available to meet operational and project requirements while optimizing inventory investment.
- Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance Planners, Reliability Teams, and SCM personnel to resolve material-related challenges.
- Lead material readiness and logistics planning activities for major operational events when required.
Governance, Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with Supply Chain Management policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Champion safe warehouse operations and adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
- Maintain accountability for inventory governance, audit readiness, and data integrity.
- Support investigations and corrective actions related to inventory, warehouse, or material management issues.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years of Supply Chain Management experience in Oil & Gas experience is considered an asset.
- Extensive experience in material management, warehouse operations, inventory management, logistics, and supply chain processes.
- Demonstrated experience leading warehouse and inventory management teams across multiple sites or geographic locations.
- Strong understanding of material planning, critical spare parts management, inventory optimization, and work management integration.
- Experience developing and implementing material management strategies, warehouse standards, logistics programs, and inventory governance frameworks.
- Deep understanding and appreciation for governance and controls, with proven success in developing, implementing, and continuously improving material management processes.
- Experience leading organizational change, managing stakeholder relationships, and driving continuous improvement initiatives while developing teams and individuals.
- Proven relationship builder; able to navigate the organization and align stakeholders behind critical business initiatives.
- Demonstrated commitment and passion for Supply Chain and the value Material Management can deliver to operational reliability, efficiency, and business performance.
- Strong aptitude for systems and processes, including ERP, inventory, and warehouse management systems. Experience with Maximo or similar asset management systems is considered an asset.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
