The Pharmacy Technician – Inpatient supports inpatient pharmacy operations at Indian River Hospital in a collaborative and patient-focused environment. Caregivers in this role will perform a variety of core pharmacy functions, including medication preparation and filling, deliveries, carousel operations, sterile compounding, and inventory management. The role also offers opportunities for additional training in oncology pharmacy, providing caregivers with the chance to expand their skills and gain experience in specialized areas of pharmacy practice.
A caregiver in this position will work a full-time 7-on/7-off schedule, totaling 72 hours during each seven-day working period. During the working week, caregivers will work five shifts from 9:30am to 10:00pm and two shifts from 8:30am to 10:00pm. The rotating schedule includes every other weekend, with holiday coverage required only when a holiday falls within the caregiver's scheduled seven working days. No on-call requirement is associated with this position.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding, and sterile compounding.
- Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
- Maintain accurate and appropriate inventory of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
- Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities, and training.
- Use information systems, technology, and automation to complete assigned tasks.
- Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Current licensure in Florida as a Registered Pharmacy Technician
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within 18 months of hire
- Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds
- Basic computer skills
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Completion of a formal Pharmacy Technician Training Program
- Six months of hospital experience
- Inpatient experience, open to outpatient
Physical Requirements:
Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
