Senior Advanced Quality Engineer - Mechanical

The Senior Advanced Quality Engineer - Mechanical is a member of the Product Quality team, responsible for ensuring product quality on mechanical parts during the product development process. This role requires an experienced quality professional with a strong background in mechanical design and manufacturing processes for metal, plastic and seal components (e.g. welding, machining, injection molding and other fabrication processes). This position reports to the Advanced Quality Manager.

What You Will Do

• Drive mechanical quality planning activities across all phases of New Product Introduction (NPI), ensuring robust design and manufacturing processes from concept through production launch.
• Conduct detailed mechanical design reviews of CAD models, drawings, specifications, tolerances, materials, interfaces, and engineering changes (ECNs) to identify and mitigate product quality risks. 
• Assess dimensional and tolerance-related risks, including drawing requirements, tolerance stack-ups, fit/function, measurement feasibility, and capability considerations. 
• Perform design-for-manufacturability (DFM) assessments for mechanical parts (metal, plastic, and seal components, including machining, welding, injection molding, fabrication, and related manufacturing processes).
• Lead and support APQP deliverables, including DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, process validation, and PPAP activities, ensuring mechanical design risks are effectively translated into manufacturing controls. 
• Partner with Design Engineering, suppliers, and other cross-functional teams to establish robust mechanical requirements, critical-to-quality characteristics, inspection criteria, and acceptance methods. 
• Support early identification and mitigation of product and process risks across the development lifecycle.
• Collect and analyze quality and process data using statistical methods to evaluate capability, identify trends, and drive risk-reduction and improvement actions. 
• Lead root cause analysis, implement corrective and preventive actions using structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g. 8D).
• Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for mechanical quality and manufacturability, providing cross-functional guidance and supporting continuous improvement of quality planning practices. 
• Maintain quality planning and validation documentation in accordance with internal quality systems, applicable standards, and customer requirements. 

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in Quality Engineering or Mechanical Engineering within a manufacturing environment, including 1+ years in a senior or lead role, and experience supporting product development and/or NPI.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerance analysis, materials, and dimensional inspection methods. 
• Practical understanding of manufacturing processes for metal, plastic, and seal components, including machining, welding, injection molding, fabrication, and related processes. 
• Must be legally eligible to work in Canada without company sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with APQP tools (e.g., PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA).
• Hands-on experience with design-for-manufacturability (DFM) and mechanical component validation.
• Experience working with suppliers on tooling, process readiness, qualification, and resolution of mechanical quality issues. 
• ISO 9001 Internal Auditor certification.
• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and/or Certified Quality Engineer (CQE).
• Registered or eligible for registration with APEGA is considered an asset.
