Investment Data Analyst

THE ROLE

For a leading and rapidly growing asset management firm, the Data Management team drives accountability for, and stewardship of, data as a strategic business asset. The team brings together technical practices, workflows, cultural norms, and architectural patterns to enable rapid innovation and trusted data. Leveraging deep data expertise, the team supports effective issue resolution, improved data quality, reliable data pipelines, and transparent measurement and monitoring. In contributing to a culture of operational excellence, the Data Management team focuses on ensuring accountability for resolving data quality issues, confirming that data is fit for purpose across consumption points, and collaborating with data stakeholders to structure data and design workflows that strengthen operational outcomes. Using strong investment data and operational knowledge, the team provides superior support to investment and reporting teams and performs specialized “first response” duties related to managing and ensuring data quality, accuracy, and availability for stakeholders. This position will be part of a team of Data Analysts who directly own and are accountable for the stewardship of critical data domains, including centralized implementation, documentation, and ownership of methodology decisions. The position is based in Boston, MA, with a focus on all aspects of data management related to a multi-asset book of business supporting investment and enterprise reporting capabilities.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Identify, problem solve and track investment data quality and accuracy concerns to resolution, including detecting, analyzing, and remediating root causes to complex issues.

• Autonomously manage and prioritize the backlog of data quality issues and requests, incorporating stakeholder input and risk mitigation principles, for both short-term and long-term end-to-end quality remediation.

• Subject matter expert on end-to-end data flows and data dependencies to track data lineage, resolve data ambiguities, and conduct data quality impact analysis.

• Identify and manage the resolution path for data issues and escalate decisions and thematic challenges where appropriate to leadership.  Develop broad solutions by working cross functionally with operations, technology, distribution, legal and compliance.

• Provide subject matter expertise for data-related strategic initiatives to optimize data outcomes and capabilities.  Includes requirements, testing, and business support for the development of data packages. 

• Execute data standardization activities where possible to achieve short-term resolution of issues.

• Ensure data policies and standards are adhered to within stakeholder systems and reports.

• Inform funding decisions with respect to data and technology needs in support of data management related requirements.

• Develop and improve the Data Management team processes, manage data quality dashboards, and provide input in their design and development.

• Collaborate with members of Data, Technology, and Operations to ensure consistent stewardship of data and to maintain data quality in accordance with data quality standards.
• Assume additional responsibilities as required.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent with a major in finance, computer science, engineering, data science or related field.

• 6-8+ years of investment management industry experience, with preferably 7 or more years of related experience in investment data, analytics, and/or investment operations.

• Strong project management and process management skills to guide point-in-time and ongoing targeted data quality improvement projects.

• Proven analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to independently develop creative and scalable solutions to meet dynamic business needs.

• Deep understanding of how data is used within investment and related processes and its impact on desired process outcomes.

• Broad knowledge of equity and fixed income security types, including derivatives, as well as associated data methodologies and industry standards.

• Strong professional judgement and communication skills across multiple levels of the organization.  Demonstrated ability to form effective working relationships, be resourceful and resolve conflicts.

• Experience with basic data analysis techniques such as descriptive analysis, diagnostic analysis, regression analysis, etc.

• Ability to communicate at all levels of an organization.
• Demonstrated ability to perform job responsibilities collaboratively as well as independently, and effectively in a fast paced and demanding environment.

PREFERRED SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPEREINCE

• Snowflake, Bloomberg PORT, Charles River Investment Manager Solution, Eagle Investment Systems, Factset, Tableau &/or Power BI

• Python, SQL
• CFA or demonstrated progress and/or an interest in pursuing

Base Salary Range: $123,000.00 - $177,500.00 This position is eligible for competitive incentive bonus. 

At MFS, we believe in fair and transparent compensation. For that reason, we’re including the salary range for this position. This range reflects our good-faith expectation for what we’ll pay depending on the candidate’s experience, training and education. In addition to the salary, we also offer significant and competitive incentive compensation based on both individual and company performance. Other components of our Total Rewards Package include:
