AP011 - Temporary Travel Nanny - NYC/International

Overview

A private family currently in New York City is seeking an exceptional International Travel Nanny / Family Assistant to care for their 13-month-old son. The family travels internationally on a full-time basis, generally spending approximately 2–4 weeks in each location. Upcoming travel is expected to include destinations across the US, Israel, and Europe.

This is initially anticipated to be a 3–4 month placement, with the potential to extend for the right candidate. The schedule will typically be six days per week, approximately 9am–7pm, with flexibility required around travel and the family’s changing schedule. 

The role will be approximately 70% childcare and 30% family assistant support. Their son is a happy, social, active toddler who loves being out and about. The family is looking for someone who is genuinely playful and engaging while bringing a strong understanding of early childhood development. They particularly value a nanny who naturally incorporates language, learning, exploration, and developmental opportunities into everyday play.

This is a high-trust, high-autonomy position and will suit someone who is highly independent, adaptable, well-travelled, and comfortable making decisions without requiring significant direction. The successful candidate should genuinely enjoy the lifestyle that comes with frequent international travel and be comfortable working closely alongside a family for an extended period.

Candidates must be available to meet and trial with the family in person in Manhattan.

Responsibilities

• Provide attentive and engaging sole-charge care for one 13-month-old child
• Create fun, play-led, developmentally appropriate days
• Encourage language, communication, physical development, exploration, and learning through everyday play and experiences
• Maintain the child’s routines as consistently as possible while travelling between destinations and time zones
• Plan and facilitate age-appropriate outings, activities, classes, and experiences
• Research child-friendly activities, parks, classes, and other opportunities in each new location
• Prepare and offer age-appropriate meals and snacks as required
• Manage the child’s belongings, clothing, supplies, and other day-to-day needs
• Pack and unpack the child’s belongings when travelling between destinations
• Help establish and reset the child’s environment on arrival in each new location
• Monitor and replenish supplies as required
• Assist with relevant bookings, reservations, and local research
• Support the practical logistics associated with frequent international travel
• Anticipate the family’s needs and proactively help ensure each transition between locations runs smoothly
• Work collaboratively with the parents while confidently taking ownership of the child’s day

Qualifications

• Strong professional experience caring for babies and toddlers, including significant sole-charge experience
• Previous experience travelling extensively with a private family strongly preferred
• A relevant university degree or tertiary qualification in early childhood education, education, psychology, child development, or a related field is highly desirable
• Strong knowledge of early childhood development and an ability to incorporate this naturally into play and everyday activities
• Experienced travel nannies, yacht nannies/stews with genuine childcare depth, and early-years professionals with private household experience are encouraged to apply
• Highly independent, proactive, and capable of thinking ahead
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
• Naturally playful, engaging, and communicative with young children
• Strong work ethic and comfortable with the demands of an intensive travel position
• Well travelled and genuinely comfortable adapting quickly to new countries and environments
• Excellent English
• Driving license preferred, but not required

Requirements

• Must be available to meet and trial in person in Manhattan
• Available to begin around late September/early October
• Able to commit to an initial 3–4 month placement, with the possibility of extending
• Passport and circumstances that allow for extensive and potentially short-notice international travel
• Comfortable working approximately six days per week
• Flexible around working hours and travel days
• Comfortable living and travelling alongside the family throughout the placement
• Excellent verifiable references

Salary and Benefits

The family is offering $600–$800 per working day, depending on experience and qualifications.
