What you will have an opportunity to do:
Position Summary
Skamania Lodge is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and results-oriented Director of Sales & Marketing to lead the property's sales and marketing efforts and support overall revenue and business development objectives.
The Director of Sales & Marketing will develop and execute strategies designed to increase business, strengthen market positioning, build relationships with key customers and partners, and maximize opportunities across the property's various market segments. This leader will work closely with the General Manager and other members of the leadership team to develop and implement annual sales and marketing plans aligned with the property's financial and business objectives.
The successful candidate will provide leadership and direction to the sales and marketing function, foster a proactive sales culture, and identify opportunities to grow market share and overall business performance.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute comprehensive sales and marketing strategies aligned with property goals and business objectives.
- Establish short- and long-term strategies to drive business growth and strengthen the property's market position.
- Monitor market conditions, competitive activity, industry trends, and customer needs to identify opportunities and potential challenges.
- Collaborate with property leadership on annual budgeting, forecasting, business planning, and revenue objectives.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
Sales Leadership
- Provide leadership and direction for the property's sales efforts across applicable market segments.
- Develop strategies to generate new business while strengthening relationships with existing accounts and customers.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities through proactive prospecting, networking, account development, and relationship building.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key accounts, meeting and event professionals, travel partners, community organizations, and other relevant business partners.
- Participate in sales calls, client meetings, site visits, industry events, trade shows, and other business development activities.
- Monitor sales activity, account production, and business pace and adjust strategies as appropriate.
- Partner with other departments to ensure effective communication and a seamless transition from the sales process to operations.
Marketing & Brand Development
- Develop and oversee marketing strategies that support the property's business and revenue objectives.
- Coordinate marketing initiatives across appropriate channels, which may include digital marketing, social media, advertising, public relations, promotions, email marketing, and other relevant platforms.
- Ensure marketing communications consistently reflect the property's positioning, guest experience, and overall brand standards.
- Work with internal resources, ownership, brand partners, agencies, vendors, and other stakeholders as appropriate to execute marketing initiatives.
- Monitor marketing performance and utilize available data and analytics to evaluate effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Support initiatives designed to strengthen awareness of the property and generate demand.
Revenue & Business Performance
- Work collaboratively with Revenue Management and property leadership to support overall revenue and profitability objectives.
- Utilize market intelligence, sales activity, business pace, and performance data to inform sales and marketing strategies.
- Support forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning related to sales and marketing activities.
- Monitor competitive positioning and identify opportunities to improve business performance and market share.
- Provide regular updates and reporting regarding sales activity, business development, market conditions, and performance.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop sales and marketing team members.
- Establish clear expectations, goals, and performance standards.
- Foster a proactive, collaborative, accountable, and results-oriented culture.
- Provide ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
- Recruit and retain talented sales and marketing professionals.
- Promote effective communication and collaboration across departments.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Hospitality, Business, Marketing, or a related field preferred.
- Progressive sales and marketing leadership experience within the hospitality industry.
- Experience in a hotel, resort, destination property, or comparable hospitality environment.
- Demonstrated success developing and executing sales strategies that generate business and revenue growth.
- Experience leading, developing, and motivating a sales team.
- Strong understanding of hospitality sales, marketing, business development, and customer relationship management.
- Strong financial and analytical skills, including experience with budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis.
- Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, business partners, and industry professionals.
- Ability to work collaboratively with property leadership and other departments.
Preferred
- Experience in a resort, destination, independent, lifestyle, or full-service hospitality environment.
- Experience overseeing both sales and marketing functions.
- Experience with hotel sales and marketing technology, CRM systems, and related platforms.
- Knowledge of the local and regional hospitality, travel, and tourism market.
- Experience working with group, meetings, events, leisure, corporate, or other applicable hospitality market segments.
