Description

Overview

The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to our mission of saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low-and middle-income countries. We work at the invitation of governments to support them and the private sector to create and sustain high-quality health systems.

CHAI was founded in 2002 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, with the goal of dramatically reducing the price of life-saving drugs and increasing access to these medicines in the countries with the highest burden of the disease. Over the following two decades, CHAI has expanded its focus. Today, along with HIV, we work with our partners to prevent and treat infectious diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis. Our work has also expanded into cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and other non-communicable diseases, and we work to accelerate the rollout of lifesaving vaccines, reduce maternal and child mortality, combat chronic malnutrition, and increase access to assistive technology. We are investing in horizontal approaches to strengthen health systems through programs in human resources for health, digital health, and health financing. With each new and innovative program, our strategy is grounded in maximizing sustainable impact at scale, ensuring that governments lead the solutions, that programs are designed to scale nationally, and learnings are shared globally.

At CHAI, our people are our greatest asset, and none of this work would be possible without their talent, time, dedication, and passion for our mission and values. We are a highly diverse team of enthusiastic individuals across 40 countries with a broad range of skill sets and life experiences. CHAI is deeply grounded in the countries we work in, with the majority of our staff based in program countries. Learn more about our exciting work: http://www.clintonhealthaccess.org

CHAI is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and is committed to providing an environment of fairness, and mutual respect where all applicants have access to equal employment opportunities. CHAI values diversity and inclusion, and recognizes that our mission is best advanced by the leadership and contributions of people with diverse experience, backgrounds, and culture.

Position Overview

As a member of the team supporting CHAI's CEO, you will help build a new, lean business development and partnerships function that powers the CEO's donor engagement and CHAI's most strategic funding relationships. Working closely with the Chief of Staff to the CEO, you will support the resourcing of programs with transformational impact – such as ending HIV in Africa and building AI-native health systems – across a diverse portfolio of donors and prospects.

This is a practical, execution-focused role for someone who can operate with minimal direction, right-size their effort to what the moment requires, and move quickly. You will research and map CHAI's priority funders and identify prospects for new opportunities; build the pitch decks, proposals, and investment cases that turn CHAI's priorities into a compelling ask; prepare the CEO and senior leadership for donor meetings and key convenings; and stand up the tools and coordination that hold a lean function together. Central to the role, you will build and maintain the AI-powered tools that make this function work – including a custom donor CRM – and use AI to accelerate prospecting, enrich donor profiles, and surface relationship insights.

This is a unique opportunity to help stand up a new function from the ground up, work directly with senior leadership, and contribute to the resourcing of some of global health's most ambitious initiatives.

Responsibilities

Research & prospecting

  • Donor strategy and relationship mapping: Developing engagement strategies and mapping relationships, networks, and decision-makers for CHAI's key donors and prospects, and identifying the highest-potential paths to deepen them.
  • Prospecting and research: Conducting donor prospecting and research to identify and qualify new funding opportunities, using AI tools to accelerate research and build and enrich donor profiles.

Collateral & writing

  • Pitch development: Working with program, country, and functional teams to gather inputs and build compelling donor pitch decks, proposals, and investment cases that translate CHAI's priorities into a clear ask for a range of funder audiences.
  • RFPs and proposals: As needed, compiling and coordinating responses to general RFPs and funding solicitations, working across program and functional teams to assemble timely, high-quality submissions.

Preparing the CEO for success

  • Briefing notes and talking points: Preparing high-quality briefing notes and talking points for the CEO and senior leadership ahead of key donor meetings and external engagements.
  • Conference and convenings: Coordinating CHAI's presence at key conferences and convenings, including planning, scheduling, materials, and follow-up to maximize relationship-building and visibility.

Tracking & coordination

  • Building and maintaining AI-based tools: Designing, building, and maintaining a custom AI-powered donor CRM and the broader toolkit that runs the function – tracking relationships and touchpoints, generating regular digests and updates for the CEO and leadership, and keeping donor data current and actionable.
  • Development operations: Managing the CHAI Development inbox, maintaining donor portal logins, and handling the day-to-day operational tasks that keep the function running.
  • Gathering org-wide BD needs: Systematically gathering input from program, country, and functional teams on their BD needs, and translating it into a coherent strategy and lightweight tools to collect input and report back across the organization.

Qualifications

We are seeking exceptional and highly motivated individuals with a genuine desire to maximize global health outcomes. An ideal candidate will be described as:

  • Independent – You plan an efficient approach to practical problems, proactively identify and take next steps, and reliably deliver with minimal direction.
  • Communicative – You respectfully and effectively navigate varied and sensitive stakeholder environments, from in-country teams to senior donor executives. You are an exceptional writer of memos and presentation materials.
  • Adaptable – You are comfortable with ambiguity and shifting scope, quick to ramp up on new topics, capable of allocating effort across competing priorities, and willing to embrace steep learning curves.
  • AI-forward – You are an AI superuser who not only uses modern tools but builds them. You can stand up sophisticated AI-powered workflows and applications — a donor CRM, digests, input-collection tools — and are eager to apply them to make a lean function far more productive.

There is no 'perfect' candidate for this role. We are seeking dedicated and passionate individuals who want to make a difference in global health outcomes. Whatever your background, if this role excites you, please apply.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5-6 years of work experience in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment (e.g., fundraising or development, strategy consulting, investment banking, business development, or a high-growth startup).
  • Experience developing proposals, pitches, or fundraising materials, and communicating persuasively to senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to build sophisticated AI-powered tools and workflows (e.g., a CRM or tracker, automated digests, data collection tools), with examples you can point to.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Superb communication skills in English, both written and verbal.

Advantages

  • Experience in a fundraising, development, or business development function in the social impact space, in consulting, or raising capital in a startup.
  • Familiarity with the philanthropic and donor landscape, including foundations, high-net-worth individuals, and mission-aligned funders.
  • Knowledge of global health and development landscape including key funders, stakeholders, and broader trends and dynamics.
  • Experience working remotely with a decentralized team.
  • Experience working in or supporting low- and middle-income countries.
  • Professional fluency in other languages, such as French and Spanish.
