ABOUT THE ROLE
RMIT Vietnam is seeking 3 accomplished academic leaders to strengthen the Bachelor of Professional Communication. The Senior Lecturers will make significant and original contributions to teaching, curriculum, research and engagement at Academic Level C. Each appointee will lead and coordinate courses and program initiatives, support academic quality across campuses, mentor colleagues, and contribute to the strategic development of Professional Communication and the School.
The appointees will maintain a sustained program of high-quality research and/or scholarly practice with recognition at national level, contribute to research funding and higher degree by research supervision, and build productive partnerships across RMIT and with industry, government, professional and academic communities in Vietnam, the ASEAN region and internationally.
Disciplinary profiles sought
Across the 3 appointments, the program is seeking complementary expertise. Applicants must demonstrate current, advanced subject knowledge and a strong teaching and research or professional profile in at least one of the following areas, together with the capacity to contribute to the broader Professional Communication curriculum:
Advertising and Creative Communication: advertising strategy and theory; consumer and cultural insight; brand communication; creative concept development; copywriting and/or art direction; integrated and multi-platform campaigns; agency and client practice; and the implications of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies for advertising.
Public Relations and Strategic Communication: public relations theory and practice; strategic research and planning; stakeholder and community engagement; corporate, organisational and public-sector communication; issues and crisis communication; advocacy and communication for social change; campaign implementation and evaluation; and public diplomacy or related fields.
Digital Communication and Emerging Media: digital and social media strategy; content creation and distribution; platform studies and digital cultures; audiences and online communities; social listening, metrics and analytics; digital ethnography; creator and influencer economies; platform entrepreneurship; and artificial intelligence or emerging media.
KEY ACCOUNTIBILITIES
- Lead and teach across undergraduate and, where relevant, postgraduate programs at a level appropriate to Academic Level C. This includes designing and reviewing curriculum and assessment; leading course coordination, assessment design and moderation; evaluating courses; and using student feedback, peer review and relevant data to improve teaching quality and student outcomes.
- Provide academic leadership within Professional Communication, including leading multi-campus course and program initiatives, supporting consistency and alignment with RMIT Melbourne where appropriate, mentoring academic and sessional colleagues, and contributing to program development, review and renewal.
- Make original contributions to teaching and scholarship that expand knowledge or practice within the discipline, including innovative, inclusive and student-centred approaches to professional communication education and the responsible integration of emerging technologies.
- Conduct and lead high-quality research recognised at national level, including developing productive research collaborations and teams; managing projects within agreed timelines, budgets and quality requirements; regularly publishing in high-quality outlets as lead author and collaborator; and communicating research to academic, professional and public audiences.
- Identify appropriate funding opportunities and lead or make a substantial contribution to competitive external research funding, commissioned research, consultancy and/or industry-linked projects.
- Supervise higher degree by research candidates and contribute to the development of research capability and culture within Professional Communication and SCD.
- Develop and sustain high-quality networks and partnerships with industry, government, professional bodies and academic communities in Vietnam, the ASEAN region and internationally, translating these relationships into industry-engaged teaching, research, work-integrated learning and professional opportunities for students and colleagues.
- Make a significant contribution to School and University strategy, governance, service and administration, including membership of committees and working groups, and promote the program and School through appropriate academic, industry and public engagement.
- Adhere to the Academic Expectations and Development Framework of RMIT Vietnam and demonstrate collegial, inclusive and ethical leadership in all aspects of the role.
OUR REQUIREMENTS
- A PhD or equivalent relevant doctoral qualification in advertising, public relations, digital communication, media and communication, or a closely related discipline from a recognised institution.
- A sustained record and national recognition for high-quality research or scholarly practice relevant to Professional Communication, evidenced by a strong and coherent body of peer-reviewed publications and/or equivalent research outputs, the development of new research initiatives, and a clear forward research agenda appropriate to Academic Level C.
- Demonstrated capacity to lead research projects and collaborations, identify and pursue external funding opportunities, and contribute to interdisciplinary, commissioned, consultancy and/or industry-linked research.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise higher degree by research candidates to successful completion, or a strong record of HDR co-supervision and clear readiness to supervise at Level C.
- Current, advanced subject expertise in at least one of the three disciplinary profiles identified in this position description, together with sufficient breadth and flexibility to contribute to foundational, interdisciplinary and professional practice courses across the Professional Communication program.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare, coordinate and teach high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including face-to-face, blended and online delivery; to design rigorous curriculum, learning activities and assessment; and to lead moderation, course evaluation and continuous quality improvement.
- Recent and sustained evidence of excellent teaching performance, positive student outcomes and student experience, together with the ability to implement innovative, inclusive and student-centred approaches appropriate to a diverse, international and multi-campus learning environment.
- For international candidates, a minimum of five years of teaching experience in higher education.
- Substantial relevant professional or industry experience, or a strong record of industry-engaged education, consultancy or practice-based research, with the ability to maintain curriculum currency and create meaningful work-integrated learning and professional opportunities.
- Demonstrated success in building and sustaining productive networks and partnerships with academic institutions, industry, government and/or professional bodies, and in translating these relationships into outcomes for teaching, research, engagement and institutional profile.
- Demonstrated academic leadership, including course or program leadership, curriculum development, mentoring of colleagues, contribution to governance and service, and effective collaboration across disciplines, campuses and international teams.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; the ability to work autonomously and collegially; and demonstrated capacity to manage complex workloads, deadlines and changing priorities.
- Accredited postgraduate certification in teaching and learning and/or fellowship status with Advance HE is preferred.
