Overview
Achieve and retain the required market share of available recyclable raw material feed supply for assigned plants at margins adequate to optimize profit and utilize capacity available. Facilitate the implementation of a centralized strategic and tactical procurement structure with the Strategic Sourcing Group. Must also plan, forecast and maintain the required inventory and volume for assigned Recycling Facilities and Battery Plants while providing technical and logistical support to all customers.
The commodity specialist will report to the Director of Raw Materials Commodities.
This position requires you to be on-site daily in our Alpharetta, GA, facility.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationship with all suppliers and customers, as well as potential suppliers and customers, in an efficient, professional and cost-effective manner.
- Coordinate recyclable lead raw material and premium metal procurements and customer requirements for maximizing operational capacity while achieving inventory turn goals and ensure continuity of operations.
- Negotiate pricing for all raw materials to maximize materials margins
- Identify new sourcing opportunities through effective strategic planning and analysis.
- Coordinate with transportation department and providers to ensure timely delivery of the inbound raw material delivery schedule
- Identify and isolate any problems regarding incoming material and initiate and implement the necessary corrective action required to correct the issue and prevent it from reoccurring.
- Working knowledge of DOT regulations, materials being transported and company policy.
- Work collaboratively with different stakeholders: smelters, battery plants, suppliers, Finance & Logistics
- Ability to interpret reports to make decisions, and able to create new reports (Tableau, Excel) as required to enhance the business
- Process and reconcile Used Lead Acid Battery receipts
- Process POs
- Cross train, and act as a backup to Team members
- Find new sources of scrap material
- Additional responsibilities as needed to support the team and company goals.
Qualifications
Education, Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (preferred but not required) or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in one or a combination of materials functions
- Purchasing, inventory or production control, etc. with at least some experience using an MRP system
- Will consider new graduates

Environment
- This position is performed in a professional office environment and requires regular onsite attendance. Employees primarily work at a desk using a computer, telephone, and other standard office equipment.
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this position, employees are regularly required to communicate, remain in a stationary position for extended periods, and operate standard office equipment. Occasional movement throughout the office may be required. The position may occasionally require lifting or moving items weighing up to 10 pounds.
