JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Senior Accountant, Inventory Accounting will support inventory-related accounting activities, including month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, account analysis, controls, and audit support. This role requires a detail-oriented accounting professional who can work with large volumes of operational and financial data, identify and resolve reconciling items, and support accurate and timely financial reporting in a complex operating environment.

This position will partner with cross-functional teams to understand inventory activity, improve documentation, strengthen account reconciliations, and support consistent execution of inventory accounting processes. This role is especially important in a control-focused environment where the company is strengthening processes, documentation, and controls related to journal entries and account reconciliations. The successful candidate should be comfortable working in a dynamic environment, researching issues independently, and helping build practical, repeatable processes.

How you will Own It: 

• Prepare and support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities related to inventory accounts.
• Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analyses, and supporting schedules.
• Analyze inventory-related activity to identify trends, discrepancies, reconciling items, and potential process issues.
• Research and resolve differences between operational records, subledger activity, and general ledger balances.
• Maintain complete, accurate, and audit-ready documentation supporting accounting conclusions, reconciliations, journal entries, and close deliverables.
• Reconciliations, Controls & Compliance
• Prepare and maintain complex reconciliations for inventory and related balance sheet accounts.
• Investigate reconciling items and exceptions, perform root-cause analysis, and partner with cross-functional teams to drive timely resolution.
• Execute assigned SOX controls and maintain evidence demonstrating effective control performance and review readiness.
• Support improvements to reconciliation quality, documentation standards, control evidence, and close consistency across assigned accounting areas.
• Support a control-focused accounting environment by preparing well-supported journal entries, maintaining high-quality reconciliations, resolving reconciling items timely, and improving documentation to support review, audit, and SOX requirements.
• Assist with internal and external audit requests by preparing clear schedules, support, explanations, and follow-up responses.
• Process Improvement & Cross-Functional Partnership
• Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, IT, FP&A, Internal Audit, SOX, and other accounting teams to obtain information, resolve issues, and support accurate financial results.
• Identify opportunities to improve manual workflows, strengthen documentation, enhance reconciliation quality, and improve consistency across assigned accounting areas.
• Communicate questions, risks, open items, and recommended solutions clearly and timely to management.

What you’ll Bring: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience with month-end close, journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analysis, and audit support.
• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and accounting documentation requirements.
• Experience working with operational or financial data and reconciling activity across multiple systems or data sources.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills, with the ability to manage deadlines and follow up on open items.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, conditional logic, data validation, and ability to analyze large data sets.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain accounting issues clearly to both accounting and non-accounting stakeholders.
• High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, completeness, documentation discipline, and timely escalation.
• Preferred
• CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
• Public company, public accounting, multi-location, high-volume transaction processing, or other complex operating environment experience.
• Experience with inventory accounting, cost accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, controls, or related operational accounting activity.
• Experience operating in a control-focused, remediation, transformation, or high-change environment.

The successful candidate is a hands-on, detail-oriented accounting professional who is comfortable working with inventory-related activity, reconciling complex accounts, and supporting accurate financial reporting in a dynamic environment. Success in the role will be demonstrated through timely close execution, accurate reconciliations, audit-ready support, strong cross-functional partnership, and the ability to improve documentation and processes over time.

$70,200.00 - $125,400.00

Annual

Base pay offered may vary depending on actual location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Supplemental pay types may include commissions or bonus incentives, depending on the role.
