Purpose of the Position:
As a Senior Product Designer, you will bridge the gap between complex editorial storytelling and cutting-edge technology, ensuring our digital ecosystem is intuitive, accessible, and high-performing. This is a hybrid role: you'll split your time between core product design (reader journeys, newsroom tools, design systems) and growth design (promotional campaigns, paywall and subscription experiences, conversion-focused creative).
We're looking for a versatile, craft-obsessed designer with 5+ years of experience who's genuinely energised by moving between structured product problems and high-visibility promotional creative — not someone doing one as a favour to the other.
In this role, you will:
- Product Design (~60%): Design end-to-end product flows across web, mobile, and internal newsroom tools, from exploration through shipped, polished product.
- Design System Contribution: Contribute to and help evolve SCMP's design system — components, accessibility, and consistency across product and promotional touchpoints.
- Internal Systems & Newsroom Tools: Design streamlined, efficient tools for newsroom and publishing workflows in partnership with editorial and engineering.
- Growth & Promotional Design (~40%): Design promotional campaigns, paywall experiences, and subscription conversion journeys. Create high-converting digital creative that supports acquisition and retention goals.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration & Mentorship: Partner with Product, Marketing, and Engineering to translate goals into design solutions across both product and growth work. Support junior and mid-level designers.
- Evidence-Based Design: Use research, A/B testing, and marketing performance data to validate decisions on both sides of the role.
Skills and Experience that will lead to success:
- Experience: 5+ years of digital product design experience, with genuine, demonstrated range across product UX and promotional/growth creative — not just one with a little of the other. Preferably in news media, publishing, or content platforms.
- Product & Strategic Thinking: You connect user flows and campaign work to business outcomes: subscription conversion, retention, and platform growth.
- AI-Forward Mindset: You use tools like Figma Make, Gemini, or Adobe Firefly for rapid prototyping and creative asset generation.
- The Toolset: Advanced Figma (design systems, prototyping, variables) and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator).
- Accessibility & Brand: Familiarity with WCAG 2.1 AA and brand guideline adherence across product and marketing surfaces.
Work location will be at Causeway Bay office.
