PURPOSE OF POSITION

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

2.1    Mission

  • Capacity to understand and willingness to support and promote the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care.

  • Commitment to organisation’s service ethos through the provision of excellent service.

  • Caregivers are required to act in accordance with the standards of behaviour outlined in the SJGHC Code of Conduct document.

2.2    Clinical Practice and Leadership

  • Demonstrate autonomy, accountability and competence to provide comprehensive and holistic health assessment relevant to specialty within an expanded clinical nursing role.

  • Provide effective, autonomous and accountable patient care that incorporates an advanced level of knowledge and skills in specialty within scope of practice.

  • Utilises enabling legislation and ANMC competencies to independently manage a cohort of patients.

  • Demonstrate a high level of confidence and clinical proficiency in prescribing a range of therapeutic interventions that are evidence based and informed by specialist knowledge and in accordance with clinical guidelines.

  • Demonstrates comprehensive understanding of specific pharmaceuticals and diagnostic, including pathology and radiology tests related to specialty that that are evidence based and informed by specialist knowledge and in accordance with clinical guidelines.

  • Fosters a clinical team culture of interdisciplinary collaboration leading to improved patient outcomes.

  • Engage in and lead clinical collaboration through clinical consultancy, collegial support, guidance and direction to members of the multidisciplinary team.

  • Advise with the development and evaluation of relevant clinical standards and policies using an evidence-based approach.

  • Coordinates and implements quality initiative activities against KPIs.

  • Initiate, implement and evaluate clinical research in specialty.

  • Provide education/advice to patients and significant others. Develop education resources and arrange specialised education as required.

  • Collaborate with Learning and Development to develop, implement and evaluate caregiver development programs in specialty.

2.3    Management

  • In conjunction with the Nurse Co Director, coordinates the daily operation of specialty nursing team.

  • In conjunction with the Nurse Co Director, assists with the preparation of departmental operational plan.

  • Maintain and interpret service specific data to monitor and improve service quality, provide strategic direction and identify new opportunities for growth.

  • In conjunction with the Nurse Co Director, support members within the area of speciality to identify and achieve caregiver professional development needs.

  • Report to manager each month or at agreed frequency against the agreed suite of KPIs.

  • Collate data, evaluate and report annually to Director of Nursing and Midwifery and Nurse Co Director on the activity and outcomes of the NP service.

  • Represent SJGMPPH at external reference groups and meetings as appropriate.

All other reasonable duties as directed by the relevant Manager/Supervisor

  • Communicate effectively with all customers and patients using the appropriate channels, utilising appropriate formal and informal channels of communication.

5.      Quality and Risk

  • Participate in, contribute to and implement quality improvement and risk management into all aspects of service.

6.      Occupational Health and Safety

  • Adhere to all applicable St John of God Health Care policies and guidelines.

  • Take reasonable care of themselves and others.

  • Not to interfere, bypass or misuse any system or equipment provided for health, safety and welfare purposes.

  • Take all actions to avoid, eliminate or minimize hazards.

  • Seek information on any work they undertake and be aware of the risks and hazards associated with their work.

  • Report all incidents / hazards / injuries.

  • Assist in completion of incidents / hazards / injuries reports.

  • Participate in the documentation of Risk Assessments and Standard Operating Procedures for activities that could pose an OHS risk.

  • Raise OHS issues with appropriate caregivers and take part in OHS consultative arrangements.

  • Use Personal Protective Equipment as required and directed.

  • Attend all mandatory and recommended OHS training as scheduled by Group Services.

  • Promote a positive safety culture within their areas by demonstrating a positive commitment to OHS.

7.      Environment

  • The caregiver, recognising St John of God Health Care commitment to responsible environmental stewardship, will support the organisational Environmental goals in performance of all duties.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

  • A willingness and capacity to embrace the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care.

  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency as a Registered Nurse and endorsed as a Nurse Practitioner.

  • Postgraduate Diploma or Master of Nurse Practitioner Degree.

  •     Minimum 5 years recent extended practice and advanced clinical skills in specialty.

  • Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge, skills and extended practice utilizing evidence-based practice.

  • Demonstrated clinical leadership, team work, mentoring and problem solving skills.

  • Demonstrated high-level communication, liaison, interpersonal and negotiation skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment to the professional development of self and others. Knowledge and understanding of current trends in healthcare practice, research and education and contributes to such on a local or national basis.

  • Evidence of commitment to, and participation in, clinical and/or educational research and quality improvement.

Desirable

  • Demonstrated ability in the operation of relevant computer software packages and a willingness to learn databases utilized in generating data and reports.

  • An understanding of and commitment to quality improvement.
