About The Role:
Nature Reviews Computing has a vacancy for an interim Associate or Senior Editor for an initial six-month period.
Nature Reviews Computing will launch in January 2027 and will publish commissioned high-impact Review, Perspective and Comment articles covering the full spectrum of computer science and its applications, including topics such as hardware, architecture, networks and communication systems, theory of computation, computing paradigms, AI and machine learning, numerical computing, and applied computing.
In particular, beyond surveying individual fields and setting standards, the journal wants to stimulate dialogue and bridge gaps between disciplines by showcasing synergies across computer science as well as highlighting its translational relevance. It will also explore the intersections between computing and society, emphasizing the global role of computer science. Nature Reviews Computing should serve as an accessible, inclusive, long-term resource that offers a wide perspective for the future of the field.
As Nature Reviews Computing is a newly launching journal, the editors have the exciting opportunity to work with the Chief Editor to define and build this journal.
Role responsibilities:
Commissioning reviews and opinion pieces
Working closely with authors throughout the writing and revision process by providing feedback on synopses, developmentally editing first drafts, line-by-line editing the final manuscript pre-acceptance, and developing ideas for figures and other display items
Organizing and managing peer-review
Writing Research Highlights and other editorial content
Liaising extensively with the scientific community through visits to institutions and international conferences
Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
A PhD in computer science. All suitable candidates will be considered, but preference will be given to those with previous editorial experience and/or a background in areas of theoretical computer science, logic, formal methods, networks and communications systems, hardware and architecture, or distributed computing.
Broad scientific knowledge
The ability to absorb new areas of research, and identify new developments and research trends in fields beyond their immediate specialty
Willingness to travel to meet researchers and learn more about them and their work; and to advertise the journal
Demonstrable ability to edit text for sense, clarity, factual correctness and language (which will be assessed during the interview process)
Demonstrable writing ability
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
Keen attention to detail
The position is offered on a full-time, fixed-term contract basis, and will be based on a hybrid model in our Heidelberg or Pune offices.
To apply, please submit:
A CV
A cover letter explaining their interest in the position (please include your notice period)
Five proposed Review articles to commission for the journal. For each proposal, please include a brief (2-3 sentences each) justification for the topic and a potential lead author.
