Senior Manager – Actuarial Consulting, Life Insurance
Job Description
The Actuarial Consulting Practice of Oliver Wyman advises clients across a broad spectrum of actuarial, risk management, and strategic business challenges. Our actuaries combine deep technical expertise with practical business insight to help insurers solve complex problems, improve performance, and navigate an evolving insurance landscape. Our work spans financial reporting, capital management, financial projections, product pricing and development, reinsurance, mergers and acquisitions, external peer reviews, and broader strategic initiatives.
The practice seeks to inspire an entrepreneurial culture that fosters free-flowing ideas, values diversity, and encourages challenges to the status quo. Its colleagues are proud to perform exciting, diverse, and leading-edge work.
As a Senior Manager, you will work directly with Partners, senior client executives, and industry leaders on high-impact engagements. You will serve as the day-to-day leader on complex client projects, bringing strong life insurance financial reporting and capital management expertise while helping clients improve actuarial processes, enhance controls, and leverage automation to deliver more efficient and insightful outcomes.
This role is ideal for an experienced actuary who can independently lead complex engagements with minimal oversight, build trusted advisor relationships with clients, and deliver practical solutions to complex business challenges across North America.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead medium-to-large life insurance client engagements across Canada, the Caribbean and the U.S., with an initial focus on Canadian client needs, including IFRS 17 financial reporting, LICAT capital management, ALM, financial projections, product pricing, mergers and acquisitions, external peer reviews, and other actuarial strategic initiatives.
- Drive project execution by managing scope, resources, timelines, budgets, risks, and deliverables while ensuring high-quality client outcomes, working closely with Partners and Principals.
- Serve as the primary day-to-day point of contact for clients, owning ongoing communication and building confidence through responsive communication, sound judgment, and practical advice.
- Ensure technical accuracy and integrity in your work and in the work produced by junior staff.
- Produce executive-level management reports and confidently present findings to internal senior leaders, clients, and executives.
- Build trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders through technical credibility, exceptional client service, and a strong understanding of client needs.
- Build a strong industry network by demonstrating your expertise and highlighting the unique value Oliver Wyman provides.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging regulations, and market developments across relevant insurance markets to identify opportunities to deliver value to clients and support practice growth.
- Foster a collaborative, performance-driven environment that encourages team members to challenge the status quo.
- Promote active knowledge sharing within the team to support continuous learning and improvement.
- Coach and develop consultants through technical mentorship, performance feedback, and day-to-day project leadership.
- Support proposal development, client pursuits, and the development of Oliver Wyman’s intellectual capital, methodologies, and actuarial tools.
- Work in partnership with our management consulting and actuarial practices.

Required
- Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA) and Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA), or equivalent actuarial credentials.
- 8+ years of actuarial experience in life insurance, consulting, reinsurance, or regulatory organizations.
- Demonstrated expertise in life insurance financial reporting, valuation, financial projections, regulatory reporting, and capital management.
- Deep experience with Canadian life insurance reporting and regulatory frameworks, including IFRS 17, LICAT, and Appointed Actuary-related responsibilities.
- Demonstrated ability to independently lead complex actuarial engagements and deliver high-quality client outcomes with minimal oversight.
- Proven project management experience leading multiple workstreams and cross-functional teams.
- Experience reviewing technical work, coaching junior actuaries, and leading multidisciplinary project teams.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate complex technical issues into practical business advice for senior client audiences.
