JOB SUMMARY: The Texas Rangers are seeking an experienced Infrastructure, Applications, and Data Platform Engineer to join our team! This role is responsible for the design, administration, security, optimization, and strategic evolution of the organization's core infrastructure, identity services, enterprise applications, databases, and data platforms.
This position combines infrastructure engineering, database administration, application management, and data platform engineering. The individual will serve as the organization's primary technical owner for SQL Server environments, Amazon Web Services Relational Database Service, PostgreSQL, Tableau reporting platforms, and, secondarily, application integrations, data governance, and business-critical systems.
This position is highly hands-on and requires strong troubleshooting skills, project leadership, documentation discipline, and a commitment to operational excellence. Responsibilities build upon the organization's existing infrastructure engineering functions, including SQL Server support, application lifecycle management, and technology project implementation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
Serve as the primary database administrator for Microsoft SQL Server environments. Design, implement, and maintain highly available and secure database platforms.
Manage:
SQL Server installations and upgrades
PostgreSQL
Amazon Web Services Relational Database Service
Google Cloud Platform Databases
Database patching and lifecycle management
Backup and recovery strategies
Disaster recovery planning
Performance tuning and optimization
Replication and high-availability technologies
Monitor database performance, availability, storage consumption, and growth.
Develop database maintenance plans and operational standards.
Implement database security controls, auditing, encryption, and compliance requirements.
Support data integration, ETL processes, and application data services.
Assist with enterprise data architecture initiatives and modernization projects.
Collaborate with application owners and business stakeholders to improve data availability and usability.
Administer and support Tableau Server and Tableau environments.
Develop governance standards for enterprise reporting and analytics.
Support Tableau data sources, dashboards, extracts, and integrations.
Serve as technical owner for assigned enterprise applications.
Manage application infrastructure, integrations, and backend systems.
Coordinate vendor relationships, support escalations, and software upgrades.
Monitor application performance, availability, and system health.
Maintain application authentication and identity integrations.
Troubleshoot application and database-related issues.
Maintain application architecture documentation and support procedures.
Document solution designs, architecture diagrams, and operational guides.
Guide customers and internal teams in implementing secure, scalable, and cost-efficient solutions
Provide application and security guidance and management of critical platforms to business stakeholders
Act as 3rd-level support and troubleshooting for business and baseball systems
Design end-to-end cloud-based solutions leveraging SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS technologies.
Administer and maintain Windows Server environments.
Administer and maintain VMware or other virtual environments
Manage:
File Services
VMware ESXi / vCenter
Develop infrastructure standards, diagrams, and technical documentation.
Participate in infrastructure modernization and technology refresh initiatives.
Work closely with the organization's cybersecurity consultants to maintain secure technology platforms.
Ensure compliance with security policies, governance standards, and regulatory requirements.
Support vulnerability remediation efforts.
Participate in risk assessments and security reviews.
Assist with incident response investigations involving identity, data, or applications.
Implement monitoring and auditing controls across infrastructure and data platforms.
Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate's degree or higher in a related technical field.
3-5 years of related experience required.
Experience with:
SQL Server
Windows Server
File Services
VMware or Hyper-V virtualized infrastructure
Performance tuning and optimization
Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud
Strong knowledge of database administration, performance tuning, and security.
Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
Knowledge of ITIL processes and enterprise IT operations.
