Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

The Singhvi Lab (Basic Sciences Division, Fred Hutch) is looking for a Research Technician I to join a diverse, innovative, and collaborative research team. The Singhvi Lab aims to understand molecular mechanisms by which glia, which are about half the cells in the nervous system, impact sensory perception, neuron shape and physiology, neural circuit activity, and animal behavior. We aim to map glia-neuron interactions at a molecular and mechanistic level, in health and disease.

Responsibilities

The Research Technician I works under the direction of the Principal Investigator, Dr. Singhvi or higher-level laboratory personnel. The technician uses limited discretion and judgement in carrying out experiments. Job duties include:

  • Perform experiments at the bench level to support investigative work.
  • Order and maintain laboratory reagents, stocks, cultures or cell lines.
  • Perform and modify documented protocols and assays.
  • Maintain laboratory records and compile data on experiments and assays.
  • Interpret and report on experimental results.
  • Perform statistical analysis of test results and prepare written reports on work performed.
  • Operate and carry out basic maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Order and maintain appropriate levels of supplies.
  • May supervise work-study students.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related scientific field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated scientific knowledge in the area of study.
  • Demonstrated basic laboratory skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in elegans, especially functional imaging and animal behavior assays, preferred.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $23.33 to $33.21 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance health, well-being, and financial security.
