Purpose

The research and coursework in the Department of Nutritional Sciences explores how nutrients, foods, and dietary patterns impact health at many levels, from the molecular level (genes, metabolites and cells) to the systems level (individuals, families, societies, and infrastructure).

Responsibilities

1. Program Administration & Governance

Coordinates Executive Committee and Graduate Studies Committee (GSC) meetings, prepares agendas and minutes, tracks committee actions and decisions, and maintains centralized program records, templates, and documentation.

2. Admissions & Recruitment

Serves as primary contact for graduate student applicant communications, assists with building and maintaining applicant tracking systems, interacts with the Graduate School on admissions processes, supports faculty with student recruitment efforts, and coordinates admissions events and application review.

3. Student Onboarding & Progress Tracking

Guides incoming students through hiring, onboarding (IDs, insurance, stipends, course registration), and works with the Graduate Advisor to monitor student milestones — annual reviews, progress, qualifying exams, candidacy, and defenses.  Student advocacy across campus graduate departments. Works closely with the Graduate School and Texas Global regarding requirements and documentation for all new students.

4. Funding, Fellowships & Awards

Maintains funding opportunity databases, tracks student eligibility and funding history, coordinates nomination and application processes, compiles faculty voting/rankings, and manages award communications.

5. Curriculum & Academic Program Development

Supports curriculum and handbook review and proposal submissions, tracks curriculum actions and approvals, maintains program website content, and supports program reviews. Assists with semester teaching and research assignments, and detail oriented tracking throughout a students time in the program.

6. Program Assessment & Reporting

Maintains program databases and generates reports on admissions, enrollment, graduation rates, and candidacy milestones for internal and institutional use.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and five years’ experience working with college students in an administrative or advising capacity
  • Proficiency with Adobe Pro, Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Competencies: Accuracy and attention to detail, strong Initiative skills, decision making and critical thinking, effective and responsive communication, interpersonal relationships, service excellence, and problem solving
  • Highly collaborative, team-focused mindset
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and work independently to complete those tasks  
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with higher education tracking and management systems and the University of Texas at Austin (UT-Austin) policies is a plus
  • Familiarity with Workday, EASI, DEFINE and other internal UT systems.

Salary Range

$52,000+ (depending on experience)

Employment Eligibility:

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
