Description
Watson Refrigeration is seeking a dependable, mechanically inclined Installation Helper to join our Construction & Installation Team. This position assists with the delivery, installation, assembly, and maintenance of commercial refrigeration and kitchen equipment.
This is a travel-based role requiring regular overnight stays and occasional evening or overnight work. It is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work, wants to develop their technical skills, and is comfortable working in different locations throughout the week.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the delivery, installation, assembly, and maintenance of commercial refrigeration and kitchen equipment.
- Uncrate, inspect, move, and position equipment at customer locations.
- Assist with testing installed equipment to ensure proper operation.
- Safely operate service and delivery vehicles, including rack trucks and 24–26-foot box trucks equipped with lift gates.
- Pick up and deliver equipment, materials, and parts to job sites.
- Operate pallet jacks, forklifts, hand tools, and power tools safely.
- Assist Installation Technicians, Service Technicians, and other team members as needed.
- Troubleshoot basic mechanical, electrical, and equipment-related issues.
- Complete required safety, equipment, and technical training.
- Maintain accurate travel expenses and required job documentation.
- Communicate professionally with customers and help address questions or concerns.
- Follow all company safety procedures and job-site requirements.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
- Zero to one year of related mechanical, construction, installation, maintenance, or equipment-handling experience.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and the ability to meet company insurance requirements.
- Ability to pass a DOT physical when required.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
- Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, soldering, welding, and/or hydraulic systems.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, pallet jacks, and equipment-moving tools.
- Ability or willingness to learn to drive a rack truck and a 24–26-foot box truck with lift-gate operation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to think quickly and troubleshoot unexpected situations.
- Forklift certification or willingness to become company-certified.
Preferred Qualifications
- Class B CDL.
- Experience with commercial refrigeration or commercial kitchen equipment.
- Previous construction, installation, maintenance, warehouse, delivery, or mechanical experience.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools.
Travel and Scheduling Requirements
- Ability to travel out of town with overnight stays for approximately two to three consecutive nights per week, primarily during the workweek.
- Occasional Sunday travel may be required for projects beginning on Monday.
- Evening and overnight work will be required based on customer and project needs.
- Extended driving of up to eight to ten hours per day may occasionally be required.
- Project schedules and travel plans are generally communicated in advance.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to lift and move 50–75 pounds, with or without assistance.
- Ability to climb ladders up to eight feet and work on building rooftops.
- Ability to kneel, squat, bend, push, pull, stand, and move equipment throughout the workday.
- Ability to work safely in noisy, hot, cold, wet, or slippery conditions.
- Ability to work around mechanical and electrical equipment while following all company safety guidelines.
