Job Summary:
The HR Generalist supports the day-to-day delivery of HR services across the organization, including benefits, retirement plan coordination, employee lifecycle changes, leave administration, terminations, employee relations support, compliance documentation, and HR systems administration.
This position works directly with employees and managers on routine HR matters, independently manages assigned responsibilities, and escalates complex or higher-risk issues to HR leadership.
Essential Job Functions:
- Respond to employee and manager HR questions, resolve routine matters, and coordinate follow-up as needed
- Administer employee benefits, 401(k), PTO, leave of absence, and eligibility-related processes, including employee communication and vendor follow-up
- Process employee lifecycle changes, including onboarding, position or pay changes, supervisor updates, employment status changes, terminations, and offboarding
- Support employee relations by gathering initial facts, maintaining case records, preparing routine documentation, and helping supervisors apply established policies
- Coordinate HR-related payroll and timekeeping matters, including deductions, PTO setup, employee changes, corrections, and recurring exceptions
- Maintain HR compliance records, notices, certifications, I-9 documentation, background-check records, and supporting audit documentation
- Support recruiting, hiring, onboarding completion, rehire coordination, and accurate employee records
- Run HR reports, reconcile exceptions, maintain trackers, and prepare information for HR metrics and management reporting
- Maintain HR forms, job aids, employee communications, manager guides, procedures, and training materials
- Support HR systems and process improvements by testing workflows, troubleshooting user issues, documenting changes, and assisting with launches
- Provide HR leadership with case summaries, documentation, and operational follow-up as needed
- Participate in meetings and perform other HR-related duties as assigned
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive human resources experience, preferably in an HR Generalist or similar role
- Working knowledge of benefits administration, employee lifecycle processes, HR records, and general HR practices
- Experience supporting employee relations, leave administration, terminations, and other core HR functions
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and recurring deadlines
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, resolve routine HR matters, and recognize when escalation is required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with employees, supervisors, and leaders at multiple levels
- Experience working with an HRIS; Paylocity experience preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive employee information
- Experience supporting an hourly, field-based, construction, industrial, or similarly distributed workforce preferred
- SHRM-CP, PHR, or similar HR certification preferred
