Job Description:

The Infusion Therapy Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who provides specialized nursing care to patients receiving infusion therapies. This role is responsible and accountable for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care throughout the infusion process. The RN utilizes clinical expertise, evidence-based practice, advanced technology, and therapeutic interventions to safely administer medications and treatments, monitor patient responses, and promote optimal outcomes. Working collaboratively with providers and interdisciplinary team members, the Infusion Therapy RN delivers compassionate, patient-centered care while ensuring quality, safety, and excellence in every patient interaction

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice. Compact licenses must be transferred to the state of practice within 60 days of employment.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers.

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN). Education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.

  • RNs with less than 12 months of experience must obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within four (4) years of their hire date.

  • Note: A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required as outlined in the current nursing career framework. Employees hired or promoted prior to April 27, 2025, will be held to the requirements that were in place at the time of hire or promotion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in infusion therapy, oncology, outpatient infusion, ambulatory care, or vascular access.

  • Experience administering IV medications, biologic therapies, blood products, and specialty infusions.

  • Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification (ONS) or willingness to obtain, if applicable to the department.

  • Experience with central line management and vascular access devices.

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)

  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
