Description
The CDL A Truck Driver is responsible for safe, professional delivery of structural steel throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic Region.
DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- The home base for this position will be in York and will have regular deliveries expected between York and Hanover facilities.
- Safe and professional operation of a Tractor Trailer with a Flatbed Trailer (45', 48', 53', or Stretch), straight truck, or other vehicles to haul steel and equipment.
- Properly secure loads using chains, binders, and straps to ensure stability during transport.
- Physically load and unload materials from trucks, trailers, shop floors, and ground using manual lifting, forklifts, or overhead cranes.
- Coordinate with shipping and receiving for daily deliveries and pickups.
- Plan routes and delivery schedules to meet deadlines while following all DOT regulations and company safety policies.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date Driver's Log, Safety Reports, and other required documents per state and federal regulations.
- Ensure all freight documents are signed and submitted in a timely manner.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report any mechanical issues, defects, accidents, or violations to the appropriate personnel.
- Drivers are responsible for performing minor preventive maintenance and ensuring proper maintenance of vehicles; including refueling, cleaning, and minor repairs, takes place as needed on their trucks and trailers.
- Maintain professional communication with dispatchers, customers, and team members.
- Assist the team in other non-driving-related tasks when deliveries are not needed.
REQUIREMENTS
- Possess a valid Class A CDL with a clean driving record and a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
- Minimum 5 years of commercial truck driving experience (preferred).
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Demonstrated expertise in DOT safety procedures, load securement practices, and regulatory compliance to ensure safe and lawful transportation operations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make sound safety judgements.
- Experience delivering to construction jobsites is preferred.
- Experience hauling stretch and wide loads is not required but a plus.
- Knowledge of securing structural steel, stairs, and rails is a plus.
- Ability to work overtime and on Saturdays as required.
- Ability to stay out of town on occasion.
- Must pass a pre-employment DOT physical and DOT drug/alcohol test.
