Hazelwood Preschool is a nature-centered preschool nestled against Fauntleroy Park in West Seattle, providing a nurturing environment for children aged 2-5. Position Overview:
We are looking for a compassionate and energetic Lead and Assistant Teachers to work in our 3, 4, and 5 year old classrooms. In the classroom, you would lead or assist with daily routines, foster positive social interactions, and ensure a safe and engaging atmosphere for children to learn and grow. This role is perfect for someone who is flexible, passionate about early childhood education, and eager to contribute to a team and work with young children in a dynamic, hands-on environment.
Days/Hours:
- Monday-Friday
- Full Day (Float Position is Half Day)
Lead Teacher Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans and classroom activities that align with the school’s curriculum and philosophy
- Take primary responsibility for the overall organization, daily flow, routines, and learning environment of the classroom
- Create a positive, supportive, and inclusive environment where children feel safe, valued, and engaged
- Guide and model age-appropriate social interactions, problem-solving, emotional regulation, and conflict resolution
- Observe and support each child’s development, behavior, and individual needs, adjusting classroom strategies as appropriate
- Provide direction, guidance, and appropriate delegation to Assistant Teachers while maintaining a collaborative teaching team
- Supervise and actively engage with children during indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring their safety and well-being
- Plan, prepare for, and actively participate in our outdoor program, supporting safe and meaningful outdoor learning experiences
- Maintain regular, professional communication with families regarding their child’s development, classroom experiences, successes, and concerns
- Maintain required classroom and student documentation, participate in conferences and trainings, and ensure classroom practices follow school policies, licensing requirements, and health and safety procedures
Assistant/Float Teacher Responsibilities:
- Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing lesson plans and classroom activities
- Foster a positive and supportive environment where children feel safe and engaged
- Encourage and model age-appropriate social interactions, problem-solving, and emotional expression
- Supervise and participate in indoor and outdoor play, ensuring the safety and well-being of all children
- Support classroom organization, including setup and cleanup of activities, snack preparation, and material management
- Engage with children’s families as needed, supporting open communication and a welcoming environment
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training opportunities, as provided
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred)
- Experience working with preschool-aged children in a structured environment is strongly preferred
- Knowledge of early childhood development, with a focus on social-emotional skills
- Ability to engage with young children and foster a safe, supportive, and fun learning environment
- Effective communication and collaboration skills with staff, children, and families
- CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain upon hiring)
