1. Role Purpose
The Senior Data Engineer designs, builds and operates the technical data migration and integration solutions required for the B2B GET programme. The role delivers scalable, repeatable and auditable extract, transform and load (ETL/ELT) processes migrating data into SAP S/4HANA and associated target platforms.
Crucially, this is not a simple system-to-system migration. The engineer must be comfortable consolidating and harmonising data from multiple, heterogeneous sources — including End User Applications and Finance systems such as Junifer and Youtiverse reconciling differing structures, keys, granularities and quality levels into a single governed target model. The role also enables adjacent Master Data Management (MDM) and reporting activities that depend on the same pipelines.
2. Key Responsibilities
Multi-Source Migration Engineering (Core)
- Design and build extraction frameworks capable of ingesting from many concurrent, heterogeneous sources rather than a single legacy system.
- Harmonise conflicting data structures, keys, granularities, code sets and reference data across sources into a common canonical/target model.
- Develop ETL/ELT pipelines with source-specific transformation logic feeding SAP S/4HANA and associated targets.
- Implement staging, merge, de-duplication and survivorship logic to produce a single trusted record from multiple inputs.
- Support incremental, delta and full-load approaches; automate repeatable, re-runnable migration cycles.
- Support dress rehearsals and cutover execution across the multi-source landscape.
Integration Development
- Deliver inbound, outbound and bi-directional integrations between B2B systems and the GET ecosystem
- Implement API, messaging, batch, and file-based integration patterns.
- Build reusable integration components and support canonical data model implementation.
- Ensure pipelines are secure, performant, and aligned to architectural standards.
Finance & EUA Data (Crucial)
- Engineer robust extract-and-transform processes for Finance data — business partners, contracts, billing, AR/AP open items, GL, cost objects and settlement.
- Work across End User Applications (EUAs) and finance feeder systems, reconciling each source to S4/HANA.
- Build automated reconciliation and audit reporting to prove parity across every source in the migration set.
Data Quality, Reconciliation & MDM Enablement
- Develop validation, reconciliation, exception-handling, and error-management frameworks across all sources.
- Support data profiling and root-cause analysis to identify and resolve cross-source discrepancies.
- Enable MDM onboarding, data quality controls, lineage and metadata capture supporting golden-record creation.
Reporting Enablement
- Deliver curated, reconciled datasets supporting operational, regulatory and financial reporting.
- Enable Power BI / SAP Analytics Cloud consumption without compromising migration controls.
Engineering Standards & Documentation
- Maintain version-controlled migration assets and STTM documentation supporting full traceability.
- Support DevOps / CI/CD pipelines and release management.
- Apply security, GDPR and data governance controls; promote engineering best practice and reuse.
3. Skills & Experience
Essential
- Strong data engineering, ETL/ELT development and pipeline design experience on large-scale migrations.
- Crucial: proven experience migrating and consolidating from MULTIPLE heterogeneous data sources (not simple system-to-system), including source harmonisation, de-duplication and survivorship.
- Crucial: hands-on experience of Enterprise Utility Applications (EUAs) and Finance data.
- Advanced SQL and at least one programming language (e.g. Python).
- Experience with cloud data tooling (Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse, Snowflake or equivalent).
- Data quality, reconciliation and exception-management framework implementation.
- An understanding of data governance, security and GDPR; data modelling (3NF / dimensional).
- Experience of programme delivery and translating requirements into technical solutions.
Highly Desirable
- SAP S/4HANA as a migration target platform.
- SAP Data Services / SAP BW / SAP MDG; SAP IS-U exposure.
- Energy or utilities sector experience.
- Master Data Management implementation experience.
- Power BI / SAP Analytics Cloud enablement.
- CI/CD, DevOps and infrastructure-as-code delivery.
4. Success Measures
- A repeatable, automated multi-source migration process established and re-runnable.
- All in-scope sources ingested, harmonised and reconciled to the target model.
- Migration performance targets met; reconciliation controls automated.
- Successful dress rehearsals; zero critical migration defects at go-live.
- Finance / EUA sign-off achieved with audit evidence produced for every source and cycle.
