Summary of Job Duties:

The Academic Advisor plays a key role in student success and retention. Responsibilities include:
• Assist the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Success in the development of student success and retention goals for specific populations.
• Assist in the implementation of student success initiatives.
• Monitor and track student retention and other success benchmarks as needed and assigned.
• Advise, monitor, track and provide academic support to students in specific populations as assigned. This may include, but is not limited to, students close to completion, developmental students, student athletes or certain student demographics who need additional support.
• Assist in developing academic success and advising resources.
• Develop and conduct workshops, classroom presentations and coordinate events to support student academic and personal success.
• Assist students in understanding and adjusting to the demands and culture of higher education, including the development of realistic academic plans.
• Assist students in maintaining good academic standing, informing them of relevant policies, procedures and campus resources.
• Based on education and/or qualifications, provide instruction for up to three 1-hour sections of UNIV 11171 “Pathway to Success” per academic year.
• Maintain positive and productive working relationships with all faculty and staff to ensure that students receive accurate and reliable information.
• Refer students to appropriate campus resources for assistance with disability services, academic and personal issues and other college-related concerns.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Baccalaureate degree is required. Must have strong interpersonal and excellent written communication skills; ability to work collaboratively with staff, faculty, and students; proficient computer skills; and availability for evening and weekend work as needed.

Preferred Qualifications: A master’s degree with two years of related experience.
