Are you looking for a new role as a Specialist Commercial Advisor? In this role, you will be responsible for the commercial chartering and optimization of Canadian-flagged marine assets, while supporting the broader chartering portfolio across Aframax and Medium Range (MR) tanker segments. The role serves as the key interface between Trading, Marine Assurance, Operations, Scheduling, Ship Owners, and external stakeholders to ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective transportation of crude oil, refined products, and feedstocks.
You will manage vessel sourcing, freight negotiations, contract execution, and market analysis, with a particular focus on Canadian coastal and domestic movements governed by Canadian cabotage regulations. In addition, the role will support spot and term chartering activities across the North American and international Aframax and MR tanker markets, identifying opportunities to optimize freight costs and create commercial value.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Maritime Studies, Supply Chain, Economics, Engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years of tanker chartering, shipping, trading support, or marine logistics experience
- Direct experience with tanker chartering, freight negotiations, and vessel operations
- Strong understanding of charter party agreements, voyage economics, and tanker market dynamics
- Knowledge of Canadian marine transportation regulations and domestic shipping requirements
- Strong commercial negotiation and analytical skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple transactions in a fast-paced trading environment

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the chartering and commercial utilization of Canadian-flagged tanker tonnage supporting domestic and coastal trading activities
- Ensure compliance with Canadian marine transportation regulations, cabotage requirements, and company HSSE standards.
- Analyze tanker market trends, freight indices, vessel positioning, arbitrage opportunities, and regional trading flows.
- Provide freight market intelligence and recommendations to trading and commercial teams.
- Work closely with Marine Operations and Scheduling teams to ensure successful voyage execution.
- Assist and help manage Aframax and MR tanker chartering by executing spot and term vessel procurement, negotiating commercial terms, monitoring freight market dynamics, and optimizing chartering strategies to balance cost, risk, and operational flexibility.
Location and other key details:
- You will work out of the Houston office, located at 2 Allen Centre, 1200 Smith St
- This role is office based, hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
