Purchasing Agent
A purchasing agent procures raw materials, equipment, supplies, and services for an organization. They evaluate suppliers, negotiate contracts, and manage purchase orders to ensure cost-efficiency and timely delivery of quality goods.
Key Responsibilities
Typical and day-to-day functions
Negotiation: Evaluate price proposals and negotiate contracts to secure the best value for the organization.
- Procurement: Prepare purchase orders, review requisition requests, and process invoices for payment.
- Vendor Management: Build long-term relationships with vendors and address defective or unacceptable goods.
Inventory & Tracking: Monitor inventory levels, track shipments, and forecast purchasing needs to prevent shortages
Skills and Qualifications:
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze market trends, financial reports, and pricing data to optimize procurement costs.
- Negotiation: Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with vendors to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
- Problem-Solving: Capability to quickly resolve supply chain disruptions, delays, or quality issues.
- Organization: Ability to maintain accurate records of transactions and communications
- Curious: Ask questions if something doesn’t make sense. Get to the bottom of a problem and solve it.
- Experience with Inventory Software/ERP systems
- Proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook
Prefer a bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management, or finance or Certifications such as the Certified Professional Purchasing
$65,000/year to start, depending on experience.
