Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Applications Support Engineer to provide expert-level support for KONI’s and Enidine’s energy absorption and shock absorber products. This role will focus on applications in aerospace, defense, and industrial markets supporting customers with product selection, integration, troubleshooting, and lifecycle support. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical or aerospace engineering background and experience with energy absorption products, systems, and technologies.
Essential Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- This role primarily supports aerospace, defense, and industrial applications, with occasional support for rail and specialty transportation markets.
- Serve as the primary technical liaison between customers, sales, and engineering teams.
- Provide application engineering support for energy absorption and vibration isolation products, including shock absorbers, rate controls, and custom dampers.
- Analyze customer requirements and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Support the design and integration of products into aerospace and defense systems.
- Assist in the preparation of technical proposals, datasheets, and compliance documentation (e.g., MIL-STD, AS9100).
- Support failure analysis and root cause investigations for returned or underperforming products.
- Collaborate with R&D and manufacturing teams to support product customization and continuous improvement.
- Provide on-site or remote technical support and training to customers and partners.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, competitor products, and emerging technologies.
- Lead technical discussions with customers regarding system requirements, performance criteria, and product integration.
- Support quotation and proposal activities by translating customer requirements into engineered solutions.
- Deliver technical training and product demonstrations to customers, distributors, and internal stakeholders.
- Assist sales teams in identifying technical opportunities and developing customer-facing solutions.
Position Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in applications engineering, mechanical design, systems engineering, product support, or technical customer support within aerospace, defense, industrial equipment, rail, or motion-control industries.
- Familiarity with energy absorption technologies, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, and vibration isolation.
- Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and FEA tools is a plus.
- Strong understanding of aerospace and defense standards and documentation practices.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally (up to 20%) to customer sites, testing facilities, trade shows, and manufacturing locations.
- Ability to work at the Netherland’s (Koni) site when not traveling for business reasons.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the Netherlands.
- Fluent in English and Dutch.
- Ability to obtain any required customer, export-control, or security-related clearances associated with defense and aerospace programs.
Preferred Experience:
- Knowledge of industrial shock absorbers, rate controls, hydraulic dampers, vibration isolation systems, wire-rope isolators, elastomeric isolation products, energy absorbers, or other motion-control technologies.
- Experience working with OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, or defense contractors.
- Familiarity with export control regulations (e.g., ITAR, EAR).
- Familiarity with aerospace, defense, or industrial standards such as AS9100, MIL-STD, EN, ISO, or customer-specific qualification requirements
- Fluent in French
