Source Inspector

Role Purpose

The Source Inspector is responsible for ensuring suppliers consistently meet quality requirements and aerospace industry standards. Working closely with suppliers and internal stakeholders, you will conduct supplier audits, perform source inspections, manage supplier quality issues, and drive corrective actions to improve supplier performance and reduce non-conforming material.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct supplier audits to ensure compliance with Acro and aerospace quality requirements.
  • Perform source inspections and verify First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) in accordance with AS9102.
  • Raise and manage Supplier Corrective Action Reports (SCARs) through to effective closure.
  • Lead root cause investigations and support implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
  • Monitor supplier performance and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Review supplier quality trends and drive 8D problem-solving activities.
  • Work closely with Quality, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams.
  • Support suppliers in developing PFMEAs, Control Plans, and inspection processes.
  • Reduce supplier-related non-conforming material and manage containment activities.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities and supplier readiness.

Requirements

Essential

  • Experience in a Supplier Quality, Quality Assurance, or Source Inspection role.
  • Experience conducting supplier audits and managing supplier quality issues.
  • Working knowledge of AS9100, AS9102 and aerospace quality requirements.
  • Experience with SCARs, Root Cause Analysis, and 8D problem-solving methodologies.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality control techniques.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Desirable

  • Approved AS9100 Auditor.
  • Experience within an aerospace or highly regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of PFMEA, Control Plans, Lean Manufacturing, Part 21G and Part 145 requirements.

 

Responsibilities

  • Complying with all requirements as defined by the Acro Business Management System and participating in continuous improvement activities.
  • Perform supplier audits to ensure compliance to Acro Supplier Requirement and confidence in the suppliers manufacturing process.
  • Managing Supplier Corrective Action Reports (SCAR) to satisfactory closure.
  • To develop and maintain the Supplier scorecard to monitor performance and to drive continual improvement.
  • Supporting / facilitating suppliers in the creation PFMEA, control plans, and process inspection criteria, and auditing their manufacturing process and product.
  • Perform Supplier Source Inspection and verify supplier FAIR’s in accordance with AS9102 standards.
  • Maintain an effective interface with Design Engineering to facilitate full manufacturability and input into the integrated design and development process to optimise the manufacturing quality to cost balance.
  • As the key point of contact with suppliers, drive the reduction of Non-Conforming Material (NCM) and ensure timely return of vendor liable NCM.
  • Raising the SCAR, managing the progress and ensuring effective determination of root cause, containment and effective corrective action.
  • Provide on-site management of supplier activities, especially containment and verification of corrective actions.
  • Review trend analysis, repeat concerns and drive 8D to root cause, instigating preventative action
  • You will work closely with the Acro Manufacturing Quality, Supply Chain, and provide a strong communication link between Acro and the supplier.

Qualifications

  • Approved AS9100 auditor with experience performing supplier audits and managing the corrective action completion with the supplier’s team.
  • Working knowledge of AS9100, AS9102, AS1945 and Part 21G and P145.
  • Demonstratable hands on experience of PFMEA, Control Plans, 8D methodology and problem-solving tools and techniques. Ability to effectively evaluate root cause and corrective actions.
  • Experience in a various manufacturing methods and techniques including surface treatments (Ie. Zinc plating and Anodising) and ability to interpret Engineering drawings.
  • Strong working knowledge of quality control and Lean manufacturing techniques.  
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (both verbal and written) with the ability to build strong working relationships and influence at all levels. (Ie the supplier leadership)
  • Diligent, enthusiastic and driven, with an excellent work ethic, and a “can do” attitude.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills, with the ability to work under pressure, prioritise and manage conflicting demands.
  • Highly adaptable and capable of making decisions in a fast and pressured environment.
  • Confident in the use of Microsoft Office (i.e Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access).

 

This role profile is not exhaustive; it will be subject to periodic review and may be amended to meet the changing needs of the business. The post holder will be expected to participate in this process and we would aim to reach agreement to the changes.
